I know how Sooch is feeling. I tried ignoring my mental illnesses until I ended up in the psych ward for a few weeks. I have been through at least six therapist and probably four psychiatrist and multiple psych ward visits but I am doing so much better now. When I look at pics of me from before therapy and meds I see the walking dead and I finally feel like I want to live. I have bad days now and then but I finally am living my life

He's making better academically, but he just can make it because he let every other dimension of his life for later. Social life, personal time and sleep schedule are very important! You can put them aside for a little while but even without them for a short period means to deal with burnout later, on long term (like a month or the semester) can be awful for your life's quality (happiness)

School counselors are not at all trained in doing therapy so if she is referring him to therapy that's a good thing. She would still be his school counselor I assume.

She is not a licenced therapist. Which i most likely what the referral is for. And academically there is still a lot of help available for sooch as well! She might be sending him to someonw that can diagnose him so she can do more for him

At my uni this was a super normal thing to ask. If you have a diagnosis there is a lot you can ask for. Getting a diagnosis is unfortunetaly often the harder part :/

It sucks when your therapist, who you grew close to and trust, needs to send you to someone else because they feel like they can't help you. Hopefully it is someone who is there to help LGBTQ+ people. He has grown better academically and might not need that support anymore ☺️

I totally agree! I don’t know if you’re going into the field like I am currently or are in the field, but this happens quite a bit from what I know from talking to people in the counseling and psych fields! As well as some personal experience with a similar situation to Sooch 😅 And usually they should try to give you a reason or some form of closure, and 9/10 times it’s because they feel like someone else might be able to better facilitate your growth more than they can. It’s almost never a personal issue, and when it is it’s usually like “Ayo this client might make me feel a little unsafe” but that’s an entirely different thing. I hope he gets closure and this doesn’t take all of his growth off-track for a while! He deserves it for all the work he’s being doing for himself! Also, sorry for the ramble, I mostly posted this because I wanted to say I agree with you but it turned into this. I hope anyone in a similar situation can see these comments from us and know that it isn’t personal if this happens. Have a lovely day y’all 💖💖💖

Having a school counselor be like "listen bub you need to go see an all the time psychologist" is very realistic though. There are like a small handful of school counselors at a decent school, they are not equipped to handle an actual case load. 😬
