Oh no its absolutely bullshit. I was supposed to have knee surgery a few months ago but I found out even though the surgeon and the procedure itself were covered by insurance, none of the hospitals the doctor could operate at were covered, because that's Americam medical insurance logic for you 🫠

No, no, you’re entirely right. It is manipulative. I spent the better part of two weeks more or less panicking about my insurance not covering my most recent doctors visit, since if they did, that’d mean that I’d probably have to find a new doctor, even though this one is very much the only doctor who has taken me seriously. (2 weeks later it processed as paid thankfully, but given my experience with working claims for that insurance, that time frame tells me there were definitely some processing hiccups that got fixed. And a 2 week hiccup is nothing - some of them take months or years to resolve, and that’s months or years of a patient either paying hundreds of more dollars or having to find a new doctor only for it to be in error).

I always forget that Americans are limited to which doctors etc they can see based on what their insurance accepts… it seems so oddly controlling to me. (Not saying our system is perfect by any means, but I can’t imagine not being able to just choose the provider that I want!) I’m very glad Sooch seems so open to taking the advice to getting further help though!
