🕑 Added 2025-06-18 12:00:07 +0000 UTCAnother in the "phone picture/scanned originals" series! This time, I have to cut it down to one single panel, because all the other panels would give away too much.
This was also the darkest part of the photographed original pencil sketch, so it has some of the most dramatic change in its visual representation. The setting is obviously in the chow serving line, since chow is an important daily touchstone for everyone serving.
Here it is all cleaned up , almost ready for corrections and colorization to begin.
There was a nice older man that worked at the chow hall; I never learned his name, but he was always very cheerful, friendly, and welcoming. I tried to recreate him as best I could from memory. Unfortunately, I also saved this over an earlier, partially-colored version that was a nice "halfway point". I was creating the image on the 14th of June in the chapel at North Fort Hood (formerly Fort Cavazos, because of course) and it was the Army's 250th birthday (there was mention of a parade or something?) and while I was in the chapel helping myself to the free WiFi, there was a presentation about the creation of the original Continental Army-- the first year of creation for the US Army and the battle of Bunker Hill. I was distracted, and I accidentally oversaved.
But here is the panel in its final form! I think you'll like the eventual comic that comes of this; that will be making its appearance on Friday.
I am just a few days from returning home --I can't wait! It has been a great adventure but I am ready to head back and see my wife and doggo.
