Big Life Update

March was an intense month. Tennessee has decided to lead the nation in anti-LGBTQIA+ lawmaking if you weren’t already aware, leading me to have multiple full-shutdown panic attacks in a row in the span of two weeks. It was at this point that I finally realized that remaining in that environment was actively deleterious to my mental health, let alone my productivity.
I called my boyfriend, conferenced in my spouse, and we talked it over. In short order we agreed I’d move up to Chicago immediately & Suze would stay in TN until our lease was up. Grey fundraised, I rented a car, and drove up that weekend.
I think it might be the best decision I ever made. The shift in my mental wellbeing was palpable within 48 hours. This placeA trans weirdo like me is completely unremarkable and legally protected on a state constitution level. I feel amazing.
Getting here was hell, though. See, Suzy was out of state for over a month due to her mom developing cancer for the third time. So I lived alone for most of February and half of March (in the transphobic hellstate btw). I got to see one of the two loves of my life for a whole week before having to leave their side, and while we all agreed it was the best and safest move to make, it was still heartbreaking.
The past three years have been such a trial by fire, and I’d be full of shit if I claimed I perfectly ok. My nervous system gets profoundly dysregulated on a regular basis still, and I am still contending with very challenging life circumstances. That said, I have more tools and better support than ever, I feel safer and more loved than ever, and I am more inspired and determined than ever.

I feel like I’m actually starting my life now. It’s amazing, and I am so fucking happy. I have the most ideal work setup I could possibly imagine for myself, my boyfriend is cooking me INCREDIBLE food, I’m in walking distance of some of my favorite spots in the whole wide world…ah. The bastards will never get me down.
