I didn't hate Nosferatu but I have been left with a distinct distaste for its lack of subtlety. I don't know if this really ties in with the symbolic soup, but just the number of cheap jumpscares and gratuitous gore/eroticism detracted from it a lot. Maybe because they were trying to do so much with subtle symbolism that the overtness of the rest of it just didn't resonate. I don't buy the depths and intricacies of their past relationship when he's also jumping out at people spooky scary style you know? They did too much of both, when they should have leaned more heavily on one or the other.
