Ditto Nation video 3: Diagnosis Culture
🕑 Added 2023-04-23 18:04:09 +0000 UTCAre you an ‘ADHDer’? Have you ever suffered from clinical depression? Have you diagnosed yourself through an online quiz?
The third episode of Ditto Nation examines contemporary mental health culture by challenging the discourse and assumptions that many have taken for granted for decades. It looks at how algorithms, techno-capitalism, as well as pharmaceutical and insurance companies have conspired to shape the way we think about the mind and how it works, often against our best interests.
The episode features Joanna Moncrieff – Professor of Critical and Social Psychiatry at University College London – whose work has been foundational in showing that there is no proven link between depression and brain chemistry. It also features a health industry whistle-blower who exposes a deliberate effort to provide prescription medication to self-diagnosed ‘patients’.
Above all, we ask how we arrived at a place in time where our diagnoses define us, questioning if this is the best way to think about our wellbeing.

I did meet one or two truly beautiful humans in one of those programs. Also met some true kinda madness in them up close and personal at a young age. Probably the only thing I drew benefit from in some way after years of bullshit
Great video. I was a teenager in the early nineties and I would’ve given anything to NOT be diagnosed, evaluated and institutionalized. Just having to deal with pharma shill shrinks labeling me and trying to drug me up probably made me more fucked in the head then I would’ve been otherwise! Couldn’t even tell my dad let alone my friends I had depression, ocd, adhd, etc without getting fucked with about it. My how times have changed 😂
