BLOG/WIP: Cudacter character design
🕑 Added 2019-02-07 21:12:33 +0000 UTCHere are the very first drawings of the CUDACTERS.
Name was quickly made out from the "CADACTERS" from the XEN webcomic.
as I wanted to make them more cute and versatile, firstly named "Cutedacter" and ended up being just Cudacter.
An old CADACTER model, made for the XEN webcomic.
Something you might be interested in is that my main source of inspiration for the final look of these critters was the Parasite enemy seen in Quake 2
it wasn't really intentional, but I guess I had these stuck in my head as I played lot of Quake 2 during my youth. I was always scared of these things in the game.
I loved their torso and how their head comes out from it in a weird way.
ABOUT THE CUDACTER DESIGN
Firstly, I added a big two round eyes and added a "jaw" so they can look more alive and not just a machine.
Cadacters/Cutedacters have a modular body build, so it was easier to add just extra elements to create an animalistic version of the machine.
made a longer tail for looks, the cudacter looks like a little reptile.
This is a modification to see how different it would look by just modifying features and adding extra details.
Further investigation, helmet end look more like a beak, added more detail to the tail, idk some people like to have character with funny ending tails.
First Cudacter "serious" design, made it with softer features.
this one was kinda inspired by the Bomber-woof character from Bomberman 5, I was obessed by that game.
this one also made me remember a lot of the megaman dog seen in some games.
further exploration, how to make it look more like a cat: shorter muzzle, sharp claws, longer tail.
this was one of the first attemps of "mod" the basic structure with color and modifying traits to make it look different.
Cudacters can walk with 2 or 4 legs, doesn't matter.
Final thoughts:
The torso is also heavily inspired by the Krogan and Turians from Mass Effect.
I've had lots of fun making these little guys, but I fear they might get a little too complex for people to understand properly? I mean, I hope people can get what is their basic structure and make them their own... but as I see them, they might have too many details compared to other original species I've seen in the furry fandom (let's say Sergals mostly have a triangle face and the protogen are just a basic furry character with a helmet like screen muzzle thing? but the rest seems pretty generic features)
What do you think? would you want your own Cudacter? would you make your Cudacter a sidekick of your main fursona? or what would be more fun?
