Derideal pt3 WIP + BLOG "funny animals"
🕑 Added 2022-07-29 17:39:51 +0000 UTCHey, I got a small wip and thought I had today for you.
It was related to this WIP, that sometimes it's difficult for me to remember, but this is what I wanted to share with you:
I like making the anthro-side of the characters to be important or noticeable in certain parts of the story, besides the look/style.
I mean, I'm sure we all like our anthro animals doing human things, talking and all that, but I believe is important to keep at least part of their animal traits as also part of their personality or approach to certain things.
Animals behave in a particular way and we also have certain ideas tied to them, which is interesting as some sort of stereotype. Let's say, cats are hunters, making them good for grumpy or angry characters. Bunnies or squirrels make good nervous or anxious characters, something "besides" the animal you like the most for whatever reason.
Which is sort of a certain logic for which certain animals represent certain professions or play certain roles in my stories:
Dogs -> "loyal" -> bodyguards, guards, soldiers with a concept of family.
Cats -> "hunters" -> assault soldiers, infiltrators, with a "moody" nature.
I usually forget too to add these little details that make you remember you're actually following the story of an ANTHRO CAT, they should have at least a few moments with certain traits or ways their cat nature should come to play.
Sometimes I remember, like making them running faster running in four legs, or making they prefer certain thing over another, etc.... it's something I've tried to include in my stories, but I don't think I've pushed more, which is something intresting.
I mention funny animals, because the first furry characters in cartoons were called that way, mostly used for humor... probably one of the first time they were used as serious storytelling was with TMNT, at least in popular media.
The more animal a character "is", the most likely their species instincts should overcome their behavior. making even difficult to resist their natural impulses.
idk, I hope it makes sense.
thank you for reading :)

well, Beastars is too much about prey/carnivores and it's sort of a soap opera kind of thing, so I guess it's just like it's general flavor. so, idk, I wouldn't expect something different from that show... considering the general theme and the genre hmm

cools. i just threw my thoughts in since i find certain big name works that try to delve into this as their main focus to be annoying and nonsensical. especially beastars

I mean just more basic things in general, let's say, if you have an anthro cat that wants to behave like a cat, but you require him to have discipline and do things cats wouldn't do... I think they'll just keep some behaviors and repress others, anyway, they're smart enough. but the point I was trying to make is that it's cool to see anthro characters do at least similar actions to their animal counterparts, so they're not just a human character with an animal skin template

personally i would have assumed the instinctive behavior is what drives the conscious part of the mind in the first place making the individual's desires and thought processes and desires and emotional reactions be predetermined by instinctive behaviors. and "resisting instincts" only becomes a problem when the individual is forced into such a situation that conflicts with their natural behavior. but of course with them being genetically modified by humans to fit into human standards and occupations, i assume the xenos are forced into such situations on a regular basis?
