It depends Exi clan "family" battle armor in the light version used by Nova offers impact protection almost as a heavy normal armor without sacrifice mobility and it's light enough, which is good for these small critters. The heavy armor suit variety offers more defense but reduce movement, they're also allow some upgrades. Guardian clan are just more square and heavier than exi and first clan (and look like this) they're rare for the Exi clan, so this armor is a collaboration of sorts
