Guards definitely constantly need some kind of pointer to correct the inmate posture - lift his chin, straighten his back or point him where to look, the exact point to kiss her boots and so on...

The guard may not only use the light cane as pointer, but also to strike at inmate's limbs , fingers or even face. So, it should not bring real harm to inmate's health and appearance.

I am sure, they may be different types of canes - light for discipline, so the guard won't get tired and heavy like this for corporal punishments.
