Lecture on Monster Hunter's themes
🕑 Added 2025-02-20 23:43:09 +0000 UTCEarly access, the video will be public tomorrow! Thanks for the support everyone!
This is a recording of a lecture-style panel I hosted at the University of Victoria as part of Tsukino-Con; the university's Anime & Japanese Culture Convention.
The Lecture covers Monster Hunter's Lore and why I consider the symbolic metaphors of Monster Hunter's world and narrative more valuable than the actual lore details.
Unfortunately, the sound recording is not up to my usual standard. There was a XLR malfunction. Apologies for the inconvenience!

I was joined by a good friend of mine, Chadimus, a local comedian and visual storyteller. This was to help make the lecture more lively.

This was a great listen. I noticed a lot of time was spent reviewing how little specific detail there is over in universe lore. Dark Souls is another series known for having a vague storyline that makes no effort to reach the player. Yet, people react so differently to these separate franchises. What does mh do differently from dark souls regarding storytelling and lore, and why do general audiences have such different outlooks on them?
