Another one I knew you would love! I’m somewhat surprised you haven’t heard of it either, mainly because it was nominated for and won a ton of major awards, but it came out in 2004 so maybe it wasn’t something that would have caught your attention back then? Clementine is very Manic Pixie Dream Girl coded, but with the direction the film takes, it subverts that trope, and she’s given much more depth and importance. I agree, this part would not work with someone other than Jim Carey. They needed a person who could lean into the chaos of Joel trying to navigate his own mind and memories while holding onto what is slipping away. So good.

Great reaction for a GREAT movie!! This movie is awesome to rewatch. You catch all the little tidbits that help you track where you are in time within the movie and pick up on so much you didn't understand the first go 'round.

The director, Michel Gondry, is a very famous music video director. If I recall correctly this is his first film. I highly recommend checking out any/all of his music videos, they’re all brilliant. One of my all time favorite movies! My daughter is named Clementine, we call her Clemmie. I hope she doesn’t suffer from some of the problems that Clem has in the film but it’s such a beautiful name imho.
