Jessy

As much as i wanted to see the guy get humbled, i would be insanely disappointed in Ilea if she lost control like that.

sean

If her powers weren't so new to her this would had been great haha

yeah, it's weird that the first thing he does is a show of strength as a greeting then he tries to 'act humble' when acting humble in this case is just being nice. of course you'd wanna be nice to other people that's just common sense imo.

Zarik0

Kinda wanted she burst emotionnaly for 1 sec and show Cosmic thing/space/volcanic ashe/primordial fire/and her fourth tier to startle him and she restrain herself just after, take a deep breath and turn and say to Eric, you right about Humility and blabla, i'm young its something i will need to work on it and keep in mind when situation like that appear, thank you a lot for this view you talked to me about :)

Zarik0

Probably why how Eric do thing is the best it seem, with his aura and "Universal Greeting" its a show of strengh but also with "humility" into it by doing it gently and presenting thing to other with not a aggresive stance and multiple layer into it, so you also can measure and asses other people with what they manage to perceive and see the multiple layer of it Ilea will need to work on her own and incorporate "all" her thing, space/cosmic magic/Volcanic ashe/Primordial flamme into it Yeah its a show of strengh with no aggresive stance and "humility" into it so interaction and discussion are show as possible (and all the different one, amical or a bout or aggresive) That why this idea the author have for this universal greeting is so great as a concept :P

Thanks for the chapter!

SightandSound

As ever, you are really good at writing likeable characters. The interactions with Eric have been pretty basic really so far, and yet I still am fairly fond of him already.

if there's nothing stopping you from getting what you want during a negotiation, you'll have a hard time treater the other person as your equal. depending on how much you'd want that certain thing, you might simply try out and get it. it might take literal effort to resist not simply grabing something. and if you don't even respect the other party you might not even negotiate at all. diplomatically, it helps to know where people stand. nations can use the show of strength approach to strengthen negotiation, or apply light but subtle pressure. demonstrating power in light but obvious ways has been the countermark of human civilization even if we don't know it. rulers used that approach time and time again. mostly monarchs. but still. if people think you're weaker than them, they might demand more. in this case, the ascendant might look down on illea and try and steal the source on top of learning where they hide it. he might not simply care, believing there's no one there to stop him. he will fail, but he might do damage whilst failing. I'm not sure if it's the right approach to appear humble tbh. illeas approach was light but effective. simply show them how strong you are and then befriend them. most people would be weary but it's easier to garner respect that way.

well, there's probably not a catch all phrase towards dealing with different cultures and different people. strength is one thing that's universal so it makes it easier. humans will probably get suspicious, and elves would just attack. different actions can have different affect. if she sends out the primordial flame, most would be too terrified to even attack. there are those seeking strong opponents but I find it hard to believe too many would try to keep going when terribly outmatched. and when defeated, they'll know to back down. still, fighting with the elves has shown her one thing - it can be used for bonding. I'm not saying erik's approach is wrong, I just think illea was right, that's all.

ImAlwaysConfused

Not necessarily, a lot of big guys get pulled into fights because they are big, you get people who want to prove that they’re strong and will target tough/strong looking people. A show of strength isn’t guaranteed to stop a fight. Like if someone/something as strong/stronger than Ilea arrived and chose to show its strength by destroying a town or trying to force Ilea to bow to it she would immediately fight it, regardless of if it can beat her. Flexing one’s muscles can make a cornered person (mentally or physically) feel like they have no choice but to fight

Joshua Little

Thanks for the chapter.

huh, the easiest way to avoid conflict is often a show of strength. if an opponent is far below you, they'll avoid fighting you. if they are the same level as you, they'll be weary of you, at most - if they are stronger than you, they'll look down on you. showing strength is not the same is showing overconfidence, it's about making a statement. consider a guy walking down the street, 10 feet tall and filled with muscles, do you think anyone will attack him? then a woman who looks short and meek going somewhere poverty stricken, or a third world country. who's more likely to get attacked? a show of strength helps AVOID conflict, not start it. unironically, knowing how to fight is one of the few ways to avoid fighting at all.

Gian

Using the same approach on an Ascended as you would Elves and Orcs doesn't make sense either. Although wronged by Ker Velor, scrap metal wouldn't help the Accords much. I do love when she can let loose though! Cheers mate

Gian

Flexing and showing off are usually a byproduct of someone needing to prove themselves, whether to impress or deter opponents. It's not a good practice considering that it's closely tied with overconfidence; the only thing that may lead to Ilea's downfall. Being humble isn't merely being timid. Holding yourself back and showing restraint is harder to do most of the time and the respect it garners is warranted. Ilea has her four mark and Dragonslayer title displayed so that should discourage most foes she will come across. She is also the leader of a huge alliance as well as the founder of the Sentinels. It'll benefit them all to have a different approach than the Azarinth did. Most settlements and cities of the Accords are all growingly connected via the teleportation gates. All members of the Accords will need to show modest and empathetic behavior so that the alliance of many different races and cultures may successfully coexist with one another.

deus vult

I like illea flexing on people, and I don't agree with what eric said. sure, it's true for people- i.e., humans. but if you'll act humble infront of an elf or an orc they'll only desdain you. strength is a prerequisite for them to take you seriously. part of the reason she's been so successful is because she's strong.

Carlo Aquino

Power often corrupts and I am very impressed that Ilea held back and didn’t slap Vor around. I’m glad she listened and learned from Eric.

Christian Mordal

Im really liking Eregar as a character. Think you did a great job with him.

Andrew

Thank you!

Mohammed Sheekh
