Just a thought but with the main character being mentioned to being a fireperson multiple times and actively working in a fire station im assuming she would have had experience with not just house fires but how to set up safe fires / how fires work in general and the mention of there's no way to avoid smoke seems off to me as you can use a rocket stove or control the airflow and if you aren't just grabbing straight green wood you can get it burning fairly cleanly. We have an architect showing off about building and a fighter teaching about guns but the main character doesnt mention anything about fire outside of never having seen such a bad forrest fire before or promising to check the place for fire safety. ( loving the story just this takes me out for a second when its not questioned)

But I have to say this story has a very heavy theme of horror and these are ppl who've lived very sheltered lives, the amount of death and gore they're being subject to could very easily make people throw up especially under high stress high adrenaline situations. Also got to remember a lot of times they're throwing up it's in buildings with a lot of death and body parts and the smell has to be horrendous. It's only been a week I'm sure with continued exposure they'll become more used to it and have the reaction less. Great story so far, I'm loving it. Keep up the great work G!

This story is great!

Ah, I think I saw "Kate thought the second girl to be between twelve and fourteen." and just put her at 14 in my head. I think it is hard to say if she acts 12 or not, she seems to deal with the whole situation fairly well but at the same time acts fairly childish a lot of the time. Just thought it was too much for a 14 year old.

I have her age noted at around 12 but ye agreed, might just age her down to make her behavior fit more.

Prolly a few things like that in the story so far. Likely due to the frequency of me writing it, so what is a few chapters to you can be weeks and months to me, where I forget I used that reaction already. Would likely be something to check on edits if I do a book thing out of this story far in the future. Appreciate the note.

The main thing I've picked up on as being a little tropey is the tendency of the protagonist and other characters to throw up under stress or due to disgust. I'm not saying it wouldn't happen with real people experiencing such situations, just seems to be rather frequent in the story so far, like it's a knee-jerk reflex to bring across to the reader how the characters feel. It's a bit of a movie trope, but I'm unsure how realistic it is for it to happen to the degree it does. Plus it's possible sometimes to learn to consciously stop the reflex, which might be interesting to see written as a response to some similar situation. Just thought it's an interesting thing to take note of; not trying to be overly critical of it. I still think the story is great, and I'm fascinated to see where the author takes it.

Don't forget countries where guns are legal my town would probably fare ok!

Thanks for the chapter! Just read through the full story from the pdf, really enjoying it. I just have a comment about Celeste. If she is 14, I think she should be able to help them more with things, don't underestimate teens.

seems like the small towns were simply overrun; # mobs in surrounding areas > # people in tiny community. Maybe the vastly higher concentration of humans in the big cities had a very different outcome? A few million humans in a couple mile radius is gonna be a whole different kettle of fish, I'd think. Still rough. And mil bases ought to have weathered the initial bit relatively well. We'll see, tho!

The last few chapters have really reminded me of the things I like about this story. 1) The main character is an adult, and thinks and acts mostly like an adult, as opposed to the bog standard "special" 18-22 yr old protagonist that is either a sociopath or a mary/gary sue. 2) The MC works with multiple other adults and young adults, with both older persons and children playing parts as well. Because cooperation is an important survival strategy for humans. 3) The government response of "scorched earth" on heavily infested areas. 4) The existence of magic doesn't automatically negate things like electricity. Might cause issues later, but for now simple stuff like spark plugs and analog radio aren't hosed. 5) The one protagonist with familiarity with firearms doesn't treat them like magic voodoo sticks.

After a full reread, I wonder what the survival rate looks like. They've found exactly one live person in their travels so far, and no holdouts near the towns... Doesn't look good for humanity.

Nice, i missed this series. Thanks for the chapter.
