To answer your question about how Penny could infect Sheldon, Sheldon explained to her in the restaurant scene that she was an asymptomatic carrier. People who have been exposed to some diseases can transmit the diseases (like colds, the flu, and COVID-19) without ever developing symptoms themselves. Sorry to sound so serious in a discussion of a funny show but understanding disease transmission today is unfortunately , a matter of life and death.
