Keep in mind when the Dread Doctors calls one of their experiments a failure or success and it has nothing to do with if they beat Scott or not. This is not a spoiler as there have been clues in every episode.

When Melissa and Sheriff Stilinski were talking about the kids being a genetic chimera it was because they had transplants from other humans such as the skin graph and cornea transplant and the something for hadden who had a Kidney transplant. Since they all have two separate sets of DNA of the human kind that is why the Dread Doctors choose them for their experiment.
