it's weird cause when kids are in the hospital, they usually just bring their school work and have them do it there....they just needed a reason for Jimmy to stay lol.

grade wise - jimmy, spinner, and ashley are all repeating 12th grade again next season. they will be in 12th grade in season 6 along with emma, manny, liberty, toby, and JT. reasons why: spinner is repeating 12th grade because he didn't pass due to missing so much school during his expulsion (he was expelled for a bit due to the rick shooting/bullying). when ashley moved to london, she pretty much forfeit her entire school year. so she will repeat 12th grade again too. jimmy missed a lot of school when he was out getting physical therapy/in the hospital post shooting. kinda messed up that the school held this against him, but he didn't pass and will repeat 12th grade again too.
