Mitochondria already hit it, but yes at the beginning of the season Dawson and Joey wanted to be together, but then when Dawson‘s dad died, he had a hard time being with Joey because it reminded him of his dad Joey finally reluctantly accepted that and was willing to wait for him to heal so that they could give it another shot and be together

You said there was no Dawson and Joey feeling the same this season. Technically, there was a possibility. Dawson showed up at seasons start when his internship failed, and it seemed they were on verge of giving it another try, so they must have felt something then. But Dawson’s dad died then, and he told Joey he just didn’t feel that way at that time anymore because of his dad. So they may have developed something if his dad didn’t die.
