That story that the nun told is messed up according to Catholic theology (and I say that from a literary point of view, I've never been Catholic). The writers should have done 5 minutes' research. If a man was a tremendously great sinner, it's Hell where he'd be sent. If you're in Purgatory, you're on your way to Heaven for sure -- it's the place where people who have accepted God are purged of their sinful tendencies until they're ready to move on to Heaven.
