The Colony

Her husband Jake was late again, no doubt caught up with work at the processing plant. As one of the leading agricultural engineers on the colony, Jake was constantly called away to deal with crises or streamline crop yields.
Though New Venus had been terraformed to resemble a tropical paradise, complete with azure seas and verdant jungles, life as a colonist was hard work. Most days Jenna was left alone to maintain their home and tend to their allotted garden plot. She longed for more intimacy and excitement in their relationship, a respite from the daily grind of eking out an existence on this brave new world.
One evening, Jake returned home visibly distressed. “The bioengineered papaya crop has been hit by a fungus. We’ll have to re-sequence the genome to develop disease resistance. It’s going to mean long hours at the lab for the foreseeable future,” he said wearily.
Jenna felt a pang of disappointment, followed swiftly by determination. “I have an idea to take your mind off work and add some spark to our marriage,” she said with a sly smile.
Jake looked puzzled. “Go on...”
“I want breast implants. 400 ccs to start. I’ve been reading up on the cosmetic surgery options available on colony and breast augmentation seems relatively straightforward. We could make it an...adventure of sorts, to rediscover our passion for each other.”
Jake was stunned into silence. His gaze drifted down to Jenna’s chest, as flat as the day they had married. They had always valued practicality and hard work over physical pleasures.
Jenna mistook his silence for disapproval. “Forget I mentioned it, I don’t know what I was thinking,” she mumbled, turning away.
Jake grasped her shoulders gently but firmly. “No, it’s a fantastic idea. I want this as much as you do, my love. Let’s start right away.”
The next day they met with Dr. Lusardi, the colony’s chief cosmetic surgeon. “400 ccs is a modest size, perfectly safe to start with,” she reassured them. “Jenna, you should experience some soreness and tightness at first, but implants are quite comfortable once you heal. And in our low-gravity environment, you needn’t worry about sagging or back strain even with larger sizes.”
“Larger sizes?” asked Jenna hesitantly. Dr. Lusardi smiled and nodded at Jake. “Many couples get...carried away. I’ve done augmentations up to 2500 ccs and beyond. As long as you give yourself time to heal in between, the sky’s the limit!”
“Let’s start with... 500 ccs,” said Jake, ever so slightly pushing up the size. But deep down, visions of Jenna with impossibly large, perfectly spherical implants filled his mind.
The surgery was a success. Jenna spent a week recovering, her chest sore and swollen, but was overjoyed with the results. Her previously flat chest now boasted large perky breasts.
