As for why Mustang has the potential to be a sacrifice: it is hinted at that not everyone survives going through the portal. Only those with a strong enough will can survive at all. Early on Lust says that Shou Tucker could not be a sacrifice because he was too weak. (I could be misrembering the wording, but it is something along those lines.) They judged that Mustang was strong enough to come back, and had the motivation to actually open the portal. Tucker, Armstong, and Marco are all missing either the strength or the motivation to pass through the portal and come back. (Or are at least not judged to be worth the risk of working with)

Hugs to the both of you. These episodes have been very intense, but the end is drawing nigh, and then the bloopers will certainly put a smile on your face, and the 4 Koma Theaters as well. No tears in those, except the ones from laughter.
