He ripped his arm off in the manga. The anime censored several things in Bleach. Even Ayon vs Matsumoto, in the manga you clearly see a massive chunk of Matsumoto's mid section ripped out. They deliberately didn't show it too much in the anime

First of all,Aizen knew,Aizen knew about Second Stage,he fucking made him lol Numbers in Espada given to Arrancars by their base form and ONLY for level of reiatsu Release state make huge difference,you can put Szayelaporro on 4th place just because of his broken release,but he's 8th,so Aizen rank them just by level of reiatsu
