The only thing I can say is that they try to incorporate some elements of the filler into the canon, like the mod soul characters but eventually you won't even see them. I get its confusing though since they make it seem like you had to have watched ALL the filler to continue but unlike Naruto, they actually dont completely forget the filler and bring it up at times in the canon. Very rare later on
