Yeah, in Bleach the body as a whole plays part in how powerful you are...not having an army literally means Grimmjow became far weaker than he was in terms of Spiritual Pressure because the Espada rank is based on how much raw Spirit Pressure an Arrancar has. Yes, Ichigo got stronger, but the bigger takeaway is how Grimmjow was weakened.
