The blue haired guy, Diavel, is really just a fellow Beta tester, in the novel there is an entire subplot that, while he is trying to get the frontline together and move forward, he is also trying to sabotage Kirito. He remembers him from the Beta test, Kirito was infamous for making off with last hit bonuses of bosses, so Diavel, who wanted the bonus to strengthen himself, initially tried to get Kirito to sell his sword through Argo to weaking him somewhat and then, when that didn't work, assigned him to a squad that wont be hitting the boss at all. Though since they were only 2 people it's not like they could have actually been part of the normal pot rotation even if he wanted to let them have at the boss.

"poorly written" - just a Light novel of a decade in Japan, nothing much, really :) The perception of it in the west is sadly damaged by the YTers that trashed on it with lies and misconceptions for the sake of views. Thankfully, people who react to it, usually pay more attention to the story than those who try to do the "review"

This anime is unfortunately really poorly written but it's still one of my favourites, they absolutely nailed the mood and theme. Visuals, Music and Idea is 9.5/10. Story is god damn awful though. Characters are decent, Kirito especially. Glad to see people react to this, lots of nostalgia :)

The only problem I have with this anime, is that they set it as "100 floors, with 100 bosses! omg", but we who already seen it know what happens with that. Anyway, its a really enjoyable show, the OST's for me are top tier, being really good for each moment, reminding me of different MMO's I played over the years.

You were wondering how they aren't dying if they aren't eating anything. Think about this, we have medical care that can care for people who are in a coma and cannot eat or drink on their own. Something similar could be done for the people trapped in the game.

Despite everyone opinion in this this is not that great, but personally for me this show has one of best music in the anime, both opening and ending are good, and the ost match the scene within the show
