If you really think about it, Cid was correct that the war with MCA would bring ruin to Mitsugoshi. Just not at all the way he thought it would lol. So his plan, mostly devised by Yukime, worked. This little mini arc with John Smith was great. I love Yukime. And I saw SOO many people think that Shadow gave Beta some random notes on the paper instead of a letter. Obvious misdirect which should've been cleared up by him speaking his words he wrote lol, but apparently not for some.

I love that Cid constantly underestimates his subordinates, especially the 7 Shades lol. Having Eta work to translate the code quickly definitely went against what he had planned. Especially since he had no idea the Cult was planning to do the same thing. Just makes it even better lol.
