No? Earlier version simply dragged things out, cause they didn't have manga finished, and they ended up with a fillers filling half the series and the ending.

if you ever wanna watch fullmetal alchemist start with the earlier version. brotherhood is made with the thought in mind that they have to rush through everything that the original series already covered.

TBH. those opening work much better when you watch them alongside episodes, as they appear in show xD As for what Alchemy is in the show... it will be explained in the show. I may even raise my tier back up to 25 dollars for this series. You're about to see a series which ranked as number 1 on My Anime List for years, until Frieren finally dethroned it.
