Also, I messed up and I planned to post this Friday, but I didn't realize that I had to post it Thursday (June 1) because of the sponsor. So, this will be the first video since I started this Patreon, that the video won't be here for at least 24h before going live.

I also was thinking you could have gone about this through a different and safer synthesis route than using chromium, which has the plausibility of generating Cr(VI). After watching your video I couldn't sleep well as my brain kept imagining using an ozonolysis on a benzene alkene derivative from a peroxide primary induced brominated substitution. The only draw back would have been that you would generate formaldehyde from the ozonolysis rxn. The other option would be to use the toluene and derive it for a Wittig rxn to add a carbonyl alkene group, which would be safer for an ozonolysis rxn. Again I'm kind of thinking as I type. I do this for most of your videos. Think out loud as I write.

I was looking st your TLC and it appeared as if you had a secondary spot higher on the sample side vs the standard. I do think a chromatography column would have bosted in your favor in the separation step. You could have collected fractional of your product from the TLC you initially performed using the same Rf values and solvent. You can load quite a bit of material onto the column you're going to use for separation. It would have given you better product collection.

What is interesting was the benzaldyde converting with DCM and Chromyl chloride into benzyl chloride. I guess side product like that are impossible sometimes to stop.
