Got sick
🕑 Added 2019-04-24 02:45:29 +0000 UTCHey guys, I ended up getting sick this whole last week. Worst sickness I've had in a while too. So, unfortunately, I wont have another video out before the end of the month. It will instead be ready within the first few days of May.
I just wanted to keep you guys updated! I really wanted to get this one out before April ended, but it just doesnt seem to be a reality.
I might post some behind the scenes footage that I took today though (while still being a bit sick. I think you guys might enjoy it though).

Love it! As always learned something new. If I may make a suggestion when you're off camera -- could you add some burned in subtitles summarizing what you're asking? Had to turn it up very loud :)

BTW the key to getting a great and consistent layer is controlling the amount of power being used and it's super-easy to do so. Just get a random wall-wart the puts out at least maybe 9V, hack off the tip, and connect it to a regulator like this: https://www.amazon.com/UCTRONICS-Numerical-Stabilized-Converter-Adjustable/dp/B01LWXAC5E That way you can set a specific voltage and current to avoid too much bubbling or "burning" of the layer.

Hey there, hope you feel well soon. I had a suggestion for a series of videos, specifically how to electroplate with chromium. It's not technically difficult, but handling the hexvalent chromium needed to perform it is the trick, and I figured since you had experience dealing with other toxic/hazardous metal salts you might be able to contribute on how to do it safely and responsibly. There are so many objects that are chrome-plated, and it's such a durable and attractive coating that it's a shame it's so potentially hazardous. BTW when plating with chromium the vast majority of the plating is done with an initial coating of nickel, with a rather thin layer of chromium to finish it. A Woods strike plating is the simplest (nickel chloride), however a sulfamate coating has far less potential for building up stress, and is what I've used successfully in the past. Here's a little detail on potential strike plating: https://www.pfonline.com/articles/choosing-the-best-electrolytic-nickel-strike
