By rejecting love, Sam’s actions show a lack of self confidence. She appears to feel not worthy of love, this making it so. For Matty, Sam’s actions will be especially crushing. Having opened his heart and allowed himself to be vulnerable it’s going to be a long time before he does it again. Then again the cliffhanger at the end could see it all turn around pretty quickly.
