In a soup the main ingredient is the broth, not needing anything else but can have meat and vegetables. Cereal is a grain with milk added such as oatmeal cream of wheat and farina.

This poll tells me there are some real monsters in this group.
At best it's a congee/porridge no? Although this does lead me to wonder, is there an existential difference between first adding milk (other than plain wrong) and first adding cereal in determining the soupiness?

Cereal is just the ingredient (eg wheat, barley are cereals), soup is the way it's prepared.

But still mostly with Bouillon or other Veg extracts or Stock...... you could argue that cereal is more like a porridge than a soup.
