I've heard a lot of people suggest that GM was really sandbagging with the 290hp rating, and it should have been higher. Curious that the article doesn't give any justification for the new 425hp rating. I would have believed it if the engine was rebuilt with more modern technology, but there is no way authentic 1960's parts are making that much power. 325, maybe. 425, no shot.

I just took out the 425-horsepower reference entirely.

This is honestly where I got my info. I don't think I originally saw the 290 number. https://www.motortrend.com/features/first-1967-chevrolet-camaro-z-28-back-track-years-research-meticulous-restoration/ 1967 Camaro Z-28 Owned by: Jon Mello, Lompoc, CA Restored by: Hot Rod Ranch, Lompoc, CA Engine: 302ci/290hp (rated) Turbo-Fire V-8 (now approximately 425 hp)

Skylar is driving a pretty neat car. The first-generation GM F-bodies have always been my favorite cars. Although, unless hers is a fake Z/28 it wouldn't have had a huge 425hp engine. The Z/28 was built specifically to race in the SCCA Trans-Am series, which had a 5.0L (305ci) limit. So Chevy made a short stroke version of their small block which came in just under the limit at 302. It was exclusive to the Z/28, and the only engine available for them. Chevy rated it at only 290hp.
