VIP-BTC2: Chapter 17
🕑 Added 2022-11-03 19:00:06 +0000 UTC-- CHAPTER 17: Envy --
****
Something tickled my balls, and with a start, I jerked awake.
“Mmph!” somebody grunted, and as I sat up, I realized I’d just shoved my dick an inch into a girl’s throat. She gagged a little and pulled back until just my mushroom head was still in her mouth but didn’t quite pull all the way off to breathe. Instead she fought to inhale oxygen through her nostrils, managing to catch her breath. And then she resumed sucking on my knob and twisting her hands around the base of my cock, pumping them together up and down the length of my shaft until she’d recovered enough to push her face back down.
My eyes fluttered for a brief second, giving me just enough time to see the ‘brownish’-haired head bobbing up and down in my lap. Lily looked up at me, her warm brown eyes practically smiling triumphantly on their own. And she stopped to similarly smile with her lips around a mouthful of meat.
“Mmm… Aloha, ku’uipo,” I greeted cordially while reaching up to caress her cheek.
She popped off, smiled, and replied in kind, “Aloha, hoa kāne.”
I smiled back at her use of the Hawaiian term for ‘boyfriend’. I arched my eyebrow, asking, “You sure you don’t want me to call you ‘hoa wahine’ for ‘girlfriend’?”
She shrugged and took a long lick along the underside of my prick before smiling. “You’ve already got three girlfriends, but only one ku’uipo.”
“My sweetheart,” I stated in a honeyed voice.
Her eyes narrowed. “You’re just saying that because I finally let you fuck me. And then fuck me. And then fuck me some more.”
“Good times…” I smirked and thought back on everything that had transpired this past weekend. Ever since Lily had insisted on losing her virginity in a group effort with my three girlfriends on Friday night, the horny little Hawaiian hottie had acted like she was visiting Disneyland for the very first time (well, maybe the X-rated version of Disneyland, whatever that would be). She wanted to ride on every ride, see every show, and generally do everything there was to do with unbridled enthusiasm and barely ever stop to sleep.
That first Friday devirginization orgy had been in the afternoon before we’d even had dinner, which left plenty of time that evening for an encore with just Belle, Lily, and me. One would’ve thought Lily would feel sore after getting stretched for the first time (well, first six or seven times if you count the girls pounding her with Matty Junior), but she still woke me up in the middle of the night feeling hot and horny and just HAD to fuck me sometime around three A.M. as well.
On Saturday, I finally took Lily out for the special one-on-one date I’d planned. Thankfully, my super-sexy minivan didn’t break down and we had no trouble with dinner reservations. But it took a lot of convincing to get Lily to NOT fold down the back seats and mount me in the minivan before dinner (I didn’t want to mess up her hair, her makeup, or her very pretty dress). And Lily sort of made me race through the meal and skip dessert so she could drag me out into the parking lot, fold down the back seats, and mount me in the minivan.
Lily actually let me sleep through that entire night, but as soon as I woke up of my own accord on Sunday morning to find myself spooned up behind my little lover, I realized she was already awake and hotdogging her bare buns around my bare dick. She murmured that I almost always woke up Sunday mornings by sliding myself into Sam, and certain traditions must be upheld. I mean, technically Lily was already awake when I pushed my potent prick into her pink pussy, but close enough. After brunch we had a threesome with Naimh while Sam and Belle went for their run. And we were actually still going when Belle returned, stripped off her clothes, and joined in.
I really hoped Belle wasn’t serious about growing the harem back up to seven girls. Four girls were damn near killing me.
And now it was Monday morning: Lily’s last overnight with me. She was grateful enough to my three girlfriends for letting her monopolize so much of my time for her “devirginization weekend”, but she made clear that come Monday morning, she’d give me back.
I thought about what Lily had said about letting me fuck her, and fuck her, and fuck her some more, finally replying, “I really think you have that backwards. As memory serves, -I- spent more time letting you fuck me. For the record: I started calling you ‘ku’uipo’ long before either of us was fucking each other.”
She flashed a pearly-white grin. “Just another reason why I like ‘ku’uipo’ better than ‘hoa wahine’. And regardless of whether I let you fuck me, or you let me fuck you, I think right at this moment, neither of us is fucking each other. Time to fix that.”
I chuckled and smiled up at my sweetheart as she slithered up the length of my naked body from beneath the bedsheets, letting her equally naked body rub against my skin from her tits to toes, settling into a comfortable position on my lap with her leaking lubrication coating up the underside of my stiff shaft she had trapped against my belly.
“Hau’oli…” she murmured almost to herself with a warm smile down at me, in no particular hurry to get me buried inside of her. We both knew that part would be coming soon.
“Hello to you too,” I replied with equal warmth.
She giggled and rode my rod like a rail for a second while shaking her head. “Not ‘hello’. Hauʻoli loa wau: It means I’m so happy.”
“I’m pretty hau’oli, too. Happy to share this moment with you,” I told her sincerely.
Lily laughed and rattled off two or three sentences in Hawaiian that I did not catch, nor even felt inclined to try.
“I’m gonna need a Hawaiian dictionary if you keep that up,” I muttered with a wry grin. “To be perfectly honest, I probably needed one a few weeks ago.”
She laughed again. “This one should be easy enough: Aloha au iā ʻoe. It means ‘I love you’, Matty. But even if you don’t feel the same way, taking my time to find the right guy before sharing my virginity was the best decision I ever made. You were worth the wait. And I believe that waiting until the time is right – when my relationship with you has gotten to the point where you truly feel the word ‘love’ in your heart, that’ll be worth the wait too.”
“I look forward to that point in our relationship.” I reached up to caress her cheek and drew her down to me for a sweet kiss.
She crooned into my mouth as our passionate energy for each other flowed back and forth between us. But after less than a minute, she sat back up and smiled. “In the meantime, I’m gonna enjoy this part of our relationship.” And without further ado, she elevated my erection and smoothly sat down on it, skewering her snug snatch all the way onto my stiff schlong in a single stroke.
Lily’s eyelids fluttered as she soaked in the sensations of being stretched to her limits by my big dick. “Ohhh… yeahhh…” she groaned, closing her eyes to savor the moment before sighing dreamily and staring down at me. And in a clear voice full of contentment, she murmured, “Best. Day. Evar.”
****
The wood stair treads in this old Victorian-style house audibly creaked with every step as I descended and would’ve alerted everyone in the house that I was coming. So as soon as I walked through the open kitchen doorway, Sam turned away from the gas range and greeted me warmly, “Morning, Matty…”
My girlfriend was dressed for class in her typical attire: slacks and a crisp violet blouse, with black ankle boots comfortable enough for walking around the campus while remaining dressier than one would expect from a typical college student. Her platinum-blonde hair was short and sleek in a medium-bob just above her shoulders, accented with dangling earrings. And her makeup perfectly highlighted her strikingly beautiful face.
Sam smiled at me while extending her arms to me for a routine hug, but she seemed… tired… for lack of a better term. So while we came together for a quick peck, I pulled back immediately afterwards and gave her a look of concern.
“You alright?” I asked.
“Of course. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“You tell me. You aren’t quite your normally effervescent self this morning. Burning the candle at both ends?”
Sam waggled her head and winced before sighing, “Didn’t sleep very well last night.”
“Any particular reason? Are you feeling alright? Maybe just couldn’t get your mind to calm down?”
“A lot on my mind, yes.”
I tightened my grip around her lower back to hug my Head Girlfriend a little closer. “Come stay with me tonight.”
“It’s a weekday, Matty.”
“But you missed your Sam Saturday Night for Lily’s date. C’mon… you always sleep better in my arms - you know that.”
“I do…” she admitted. “But can you promise me you’ll let me get an early start tomorrow morning if I do instead of pinning me to the bed with your big dick?”
I laughed and slowly stroked her spine. “Believe it or not, I think that’s a promise I can actually make. Not just because you asked, but Lily’s kinda wiped me out this weekend.”
“I can tell.” Sam gave me a rueful smile. “Can’t remember the last time you pressed your crotch into my belly this tight and I didn’t feel you getting hard up for me.”
“Don’t take it personally.”
“I don’t.”
My stomach then growled on cue, and I gave her a sideways smirk. “It appears my body has a more typical kind of carnal craving.”
“As always.” She took a step back, out of my arms, and then gestured with her chin out the door. “Have a seat. Brekkie will be done in a jiffy. Go grab some OJ.”
I grabbed the OJ and set the entire jug outside on the dining table along with five glasses, but rather than stay outside and wait, I returned to the kitchen. Sidling up behind my girlfriend, I caressed her bubble butt, wrapped my arms around her midsection, and leaned in to nuzzle her neck.
“Not now, Matty…” she said with an unexpected frost in her tone that took me by surprise.
“What? I can’t hug my Head Girlfriend anymore?”
“You’re slowing me down and I need to get to class. It’s Monday now, Matty. We talked about this, and I’m in ‘weekday Sam’ mode now. I love you, but you missed your window.”
“Missed my window?” I let go of her and took a step back. “Are you upset that we skipped ‘Sam Saturday’?”
“No, of course not,” she replied defensively. “Your romantic date with Lily was an important event we all knew about and agreed to.”
“I’m thinking it’s been a little too long since our last romantic date.” Raising both eyebrows, I asked, “Can you remember the last time we went out together?”
“We’re together all the time.”
“Not like a date, we haven’t.”
“Matty, don’t get clingy.”
“Alright, alright.” I raised both hands and took a step back. “Not being clingy.”
“We both knew what we were getting into with this relationship, didn’t we?” Sam asked a little hotly. “You knew I’d be career-focused when we got here, alright? I’m not upset that we missed ‘Sam Saturday’ - Lily deserved that time to be with you. But don’t go thinking you can just freely substitute in a Monday night on the fly instead and assume I’ll go along with it. I’ve got obligations and stuff scheduled and--”
“It’s cool, it’s cool, I get it.” I gestured with both hands for her to calm. “I wasn’t expecting anything special out of tonight. You said you didn’t sleep well last night, and I honestly just thought you’d have a better night’s sleep in my arms.”
Her eyes narrowed suspiciously. “I think you’re just upset you haven’t gotten to stick your dick into me since Friday night.”
“Not what I was thinking.” I held my hands up again. “Lily’s more than taken up the slack.”
“‘The slack’?” Sam mimed the air quotes. “Are you complaining I haven’t been pulling my weight in this relationship?”
“No, no. I’m sorry. That’s not what I meant at all.”
“There’s more to a relationship than sex, Matty.”
“I know that. I was trying to say I made no assumptions about us having sex tonight.”
“Of course you did. When was the last time I spent the night with you and we didn’t have sex?”
“Well, uh… I can’t remember.”
“Exactly.”
“I’d be perfectly happy to give you a full-body massage to help you relax and then just spoon you all night without having sex. Sam, seriously, I’m just trying to help you sleep.”
“Yeah, uh-huh,” she muttered dubiously.
“I mean it. If going a night without sex will help prove my love to you, I’d be happy to do it.”
“Easy for you to say having just gotten your balls drained dry every three hours for the past three days by the horny sexpot ex-virgin still upstairs in your bedroom.”
“Sam! Seriously. I’ve never seen you this cranky.”
“Oh, now you’re calling me cranky?!? Fuck off, Matty.” Sam threw the spatula down into the frying pan and started stalking out the door. “Fix your own fuckin’ brekkie. I gotta get to class.”
“Sam, wait, please.” I stuck my arm out to hold her, but she immediately wrenched herself from my grasp.
“I am BUSY, Matthew,” she spat venomously. “You promised you wouldn’t weigh me down with romantic drama, remember? My life is hard enough without you dragging me down like an anchor.”
I blinked and gave her a sad look. “You said you loved me being your anchor. You said I was your home.”
“Not today.” Sam scowled, shook her head, and then turned around to walk out the doorway, repeating without looking back at me, “Not today.”
****
Sam had just walked out the door when Belle and Naimh arrived, freshly dressed with hair and makeup done and ready to start their days. Lily showed up thirty seconds later, fully dressed but having not yet fixed her hair or makeup. All three of them had heard me and Sam have a somewhat heated discussion in our non-soundproofed house, and all three looked at me with expressions of concern.
“This is my fault,” Lily mumbled a bit despondently. “You tried to tell me you had a difficult enough time managing three relationships, but I didn’t listen.”
“It’s not your fault,” Naimh insisted immediately.
“I knew what I was getting into in this relationship with Sam,” I added. “This has nothing to do with you.”
Lily looked skeptical, but Belle immediately slid over to give her bestie a reassuring hug.
“Go finish getting dressed,” I told Lily. “I’ll finish up breakfast.”
Lily pursed her lips, looked at the other three girls, and then nodded before turning around and heading back upstairs. Belle started collecting plates to set the table, and Naimh came over to hug me.
“She’ll come around,” the redhead promised.
“I know she will.” I took a deep breath and sighed.
“It’s probably something silly. Like she has some deadline coming up that she doesn’t want to ‘bother you’ with and it’s stressing her out.” Naimh held up both hands to do the air quotes and then dropped them back around my shoulders.
“I wish Mother were here,” I sighed before chuckling and shaking my head. “Never thought I’d hear myself saying that out loud, but she definitely became the ‘Sam whisperer’.”
“You want me to try talking to her?” Naimh asked.
“You’re welcome to try. We’re a team, right? The BTC supports each other.”
“Too right.” Naimh smiled before leaning in and whispering into my ear, “And speaking of which, let me finish making brekkie. Go make out with Belle.”
The kitchen was empty save for the two of us, and I glanced through the open doorway to where Belle would be setting out the plates in the dining room.
“She needs you right now,” Naimh added softly.
I frowned, not understanding, and I gave Naimh a curious look.
“Trust me,” Naimh added before pecking my lips and patting my butt. She then took the spatula out of my hand and gave me a ‘go on already’ kind of look.
I glanced back through the open doorway, returned my gaze back to my redheaded girlfriend, and then leaned in for one more kiss. “You’re an amazing friend to the girls, you know that?”
Naimh shrugged like it was no big deal. She just patted my ass and then gave it a healthy shove.
I laughed and walked out into the dining room, and Belle looked up in surprise at my arrival. She was pretty much already done setting out the dishes, so I merely took her hand, led her over to the couch, and then lured my lovely little lover into my lap while telling her, “Neevie thought you’d enjoy a quick makeout session.”
Belle smiled brightly and giggled as I took her into my arms before grabbing meaty handfuls of her ass. And just before we started kissing, she exclaimed quite sincerely, “Your girlfriend has the best ideas.”
****
Per our normal Monday/Wednesday routine, Naimh held my hand for the walk from our house onto campus while Belle followed behind us. One slight deviation from our routine was that Lily accompanied us today, and I wondered how much of a regular occurrence that would start to be now that Lily had more or less been formally added to my circle of girlfriends. In any case, she hung back walking side-by-side with Belle, the two girls gabbing like a couple of hyper-social geese.
I glanced back every now and then at the two of them. Lily would look back up at me with a shy kind of smile and a sparkle in her eyes, the picture-perfect definition of a girl in love feeling the unexpected gaze of the man she was in love with. Belle would glance at the radiant expression on Lily’s face and giggle before turning her attention to me. Twice, she puckered up and blew me an air kiss, which reminded me of our morning makeout session on the couch with her pert booty in my hands.
When the four of us reached our usual intersection, Naimh gave me a quick kiss and then bounced away towards the Biology buildings while Belle slid her small hand into mine for the journey that remained. Lily then slid her hand into mine from the other side, and I felt a surge of cocky pride flood through me as I navigated the school walkways with two such cute hotties sandwiching me between them.
It was, admittedly, a little difficult to fit three people across the walkways with oncoming traffic going in the other direction, which was probably why I didn’t do this more often with Belle and Naimh. But it was just for a minute as Lily had to split off at the next intersection. Belle and I both hugged and kissed her, and I sent my newest girlfriend off with a quick caress on her ass.
I watched Lily bounding away with a spring in her step, looking happier than she’d ever been in her entire life. I then turned to look at Belle and then stiffened in surprise at what I saw. I’d been expecting to see Belle smiling at the sight of her best friend so joyously skipping down the sidewalk, but instead I found her scowling with a deep-seated frown etched across her face as if she’d just been told the waiter had left a turd in her soup after she’d already eaten a scoop. And if I didn’t know any better, I could’ve sworn there was a dark raincloud flashing lightning bolts directly above her head as well.
“Hey B…?” I ventured, tugging on Belle’s hand.
The dark cloud instantly dissipated, as did the frown. My shorty ‘little sister’ looked up at me with a smile, acting for all the world as if she hadn’t been glowering with barely-contained resentment on her face only seconds early. “Hey! Ready to go?” she chirped in a perky voice, tugging on my hand. “Let’s go!”
But I didn’t budge, tugging back on Belle’s hand so that she jerked to a halt. She then looked back at me, frowning in confusion. “What?”
“What was that look there just now?” I asked, my right eyebrow arched.
“What was what?”
“That!” I gestured after Lily. “You looked… angry… at her.”
“‘Angry’? About what?” Belle snorted in amusement and shook her head. She started tugging on my hand again. “C’mon, let’s get to class.”
I narrowed my eyes and let Belle pull me forward down the sidewalk. My standard modus operandi may have been never to push a girl beyond her boundaries, but my relationship with Belle was a little different.
So after only two steps, I pulled my hand away from Belle’s and said a little gruffly, “You said you wanted to be my new ‘Alice’. You said you wanted me to trust you again, the way we used to be when I could tell you absolutely anything. But that’s a two-way street, B. If you’re gonna hide shit from me, why should I trust you?”
“What are you talking about?” Belle looked genuinely confused.
We’d never stopped walking, and I sighed and took a deep breath, considering the possibility that I’d read too much into her expression. Still, when Belle tried to take my hand again, I avoided her grip and shoved my hand into my pocket instead.
“Matttyyy…” she moaned, wrapping both arms around my elbow and looking up at me with a pout and a hurt expression.
“Look, if you say it was nothing, I’ll believe you it was nothing,” I told her. “But your track record hasn’t been great, I still haven’t forgotten about your attempted R-word, and me being able to trust you again isn’t going to just flip back on like a light switch. I’ll love you forever, but I’ve got inherent distrust in you right now.”
Belle’s arms slipped off my elbow and she came to a dead stop. I walked on a few paces before realizing she wasn’t going to follow and then turned around. She looked at me with tears in her eyes, and not wanting to cause a scene, I quickly grabbed her hand and led her over to the nearest building. An outdoor walkway surrounding the first floor was bordered by three-foot square concrete pillars that supported the upper levels, with all of the pillars connected at their feet by matching three-foot square concrete blocks that were frequently used by students to sit on.
I parked Belle atop one of the blocks and she raised her knees up to her chest, wrapping her arms around them. She stared up at me with moist eyes while I sat in front of her, leaning back against a pillar. And I gestured with one hand out to her, asking roughly, “Why were you glaring at Lily earlier?”
“I wasn’t… glaring at her,” she muttered defensively.
I simply arched both eyebrows at her expectantly.
Belle pursed her lips, looked away from me, and took a deep breath before muttering, “It’s nothing, really. Just a fleeting thought that disappeared as soon as it arrived.”
“What thought?”
“It doesn’t mean anything.”
“What thought?” I pressed
“I felt jealous of Lily for a second, alright?” Belle pressed her lips tightly together and then curled them inward until I couldn’t even see her lips anymore, so that for a second she looked like a little old lady who had taken out her dentures. She scrutinized her kneecaps for a moment before sighing and shaking her head.
“You’re jealous of Lily?” I queried. “About what? You can’t think she’d somehow take me away from you.”
“No, of course not. Maybe ‘jealous’ isn’t the right word. ‘Envious’?” Belle sighed. “She’s my best friend and I couldn’t be happier for her that everything’s turning out just the way she’d always dreamed. She’s told me every step of the way about the butterflies she gets in her stomach when she sees you, about the fantasies she’s had about you making love to her, and about the giddy rush she feels when she’s sitting in your lap with your hands roaming all over her nubile virgin body.”
When Belle got a faraway look in her eyes, I chuckled and remarked, “Little voyeur Belle was probably living vicariously through her shorty best friend: remembering what it was like to fall in love for the first time, to get excited about new discoveries in sexual exploration, and to smile up at a man while feeling an intimate kind of physical connection she’d only ever felt in her imagination.”
Belle’s lower lip quivered as she continued to stare off into space, eyes unseeing, and she nodded in short bursts of motion while panting softly. I could actually see her shivering with arousal as she hugged her knees tighter.
But then Belle frowned again, fresh moisture came into her eyes, and she set her cheek down atop her knees.
“What’s wrong?” I asked her.
“I…” she began hesitantly. “I don’t want to feel… envious… of her… but I do.”
“What do you envy?”
She sighed and stated plainly, “How easy it all was for her.”
I blinked and pulled my head back in surprise, although in hindsight I suppose it should’ve been obvious. “Thinking about how disastrous it was for you and me our first time?”
Belle nodded silently, and fresh tears came into her eyes.
“We’re well past that now, aren’t we?”
Belle shrugged sullenly, still with her cheek on her knees and still looking away from me.
“If anything, you should be happy for Lily that her first time didn’t hurt.”
“I AM happy for her,” she muttered, picking her head up but still staring down at her kneecaps. “I wouldn’t have wanted her to have the same difficulties I did, and I told her flat out how glad I was she didn’t have to experience the kind of pain I felt my first time.”
From her tone of voice, I expected her to continue, and when she didn’t, I led her by muttering, “I smell a ‘but’ coming…”
“But…” Belle began and then sighed. “I can’t help but feel… I mean… It’s just…”
When her voice trailed off again, I led her, “It’s just…?”
Belle’s head popped up as she glared at me with flaming green eyes. “It’s not fair! We’re almost the same size! How in the hell was she able to just climb on and slam herself all the way down on her very first try? Huh? You just stretched her wider and deeper than she’d ever been stretched in her entire life over and over again all fucking weekend and she just skips off to class Monday morning as fresh as a daisy!?! You’ve got a fucking baseball bat in your pants, Matty, and why am I the only one who has such a hard time taking it? HUH?!?”
I darted my head around left and right, checking to see if anyone was lingering within earshot. There were other students around, but pretty much everyone was heading one way or the other on their way to class, lost in their own worlds and not paying any attention to us, at least for right now.
Belle noticed and exhaled slowly, giving me a bitter shake of her head. And in a much softer voice, she mumbled almost inaudibly, “Why am I the only one who can’t measure up?”
“You know it’s not like that.”
“I know it’s exactly like that. Sam, Neevie, Lily, even Eva. Eva didn’t have any trouble fitting your monster into her twat on the first try, did she? I’ll bet she could even deep-throat your dick without a second thought.”
“Well, actually--”
“Not the point, Matty,” Belle barked.
I held my hands up defensively.
“Look, I’m happy for my best friend. Really, I am,” Belle insisted. “But that doesn’t mean I can’t be a little sad for myself, alright? That’s it. That’s all I was… well, I wasn’t hiding that stuff, but… I mean… I just--”
“You didn’t want to tell me,” I stated simply. “You felt ashamed, so you didn’t want to tell me. That’s natural. That’s human. We all want to put our best foot forward so that our friends think well of us.”
“Right. Your opinion of me has clearly been low enough lately without me giving you more reasons to think less of me.”
“Au contraire.” I gave her a warm smile. “I’m glad you shared this with me, and it makes me think more highly of you, not less.”
“You think highly of me for being envious that Lily’s first time went so well?” she drawled skeptically.
I shrugged. “You told me the truth, albeit with a little prodding, but you told me the truth even though you worried it might make you look like a jealous bitch.”
“I AM a jealous bitch. It’s not fair. I see the light in her eyes as she feels all the happy/floaty/bubbly feelings of falling in love for the first time and it’s just… -I- want to feel that way.”
“Wish you could fall in love with ME for the first time?”
“Yeeesss,” she drawled in a low voice.
I arched my eyebrows and shrugged. “Maybe you can feel all the happy/floaty/bubbly feelings someday when you fall in love with some other guy.”
“Don’t even fucking joke about that,” she snapped.
“I wasn’t joking. We’ve talked before about you eventually exploring love beyond me.”
“Not gonna happen,” Belle insisted. “And it hurts my heart that you think it ever would. Have you ever talked to Neevie about her eventually exploring love beyond you? Or Sam?”
I took a deep breath and exhaled. “To be fair: neither of them ever suggested that as a possibility. You did.”
“That was a long time ago,” she stated coldly. “Anytime, anywhere, in any hole, remember? I am yours, and that’s a promise.”
I arched both eyebrows. “Do you really mean that?”
“Damn fucking straight I do.”
“Then I’m gonna ask you to do something that I think is much harder for you than promising to let me violate any of your holes anytime or anywhere.”
“What’s that?”
“Be honest with me: warts and all. Tell me the truth even if you think I might not like what you’re saying. Stop hiding your inner thoughts. Because promising me that you’re ‘mine’ only works if you share with me who you really are and how you really feel. And the next time I ask you, ‘What was THAT look?’ tell me the truth instead of brushing me off.”
Belle shook her head slowly. “I’m scared you won’t like the real me.”
“If you can’t show me ‘the real you’, I can’t love ‘the real you’,” I stated with a sad look.
Belle looked even sadder, and she dropped her chin back down onto her knees, looking despondent.
So I slid myself closer to her, right up until I was seated next to her toes. I reached out with one hand to cup her chin and lift it up so that we could gaze into each other’s eyes. And I leaned down to gently kiss her lips.
When we separated, I gave her a serious look and instructed, “Tell me the truth. Make mistakes and then apologize for them so I can forgive you. Be open and honest with me so I can learn to trust you again. That’s how we move forward from here, alright?”
Belle nodded slowly. “Alright.”
“I forgave you for the attempted R-word,” I told her sincerely, and watched her gulp at the mention of it. “I forgave you for the butt plug thing trying to break the BTC sex ban. I gave you back the house key. You’re impulsive and reckless and you scare the hell out of me sometimes. But at the end of the day you’ll always be my Annabelle, and I love you. I’ll always love you.”
“I’ll always love you.”
I smiled and reached for her hands. “C’mon, we need to get to class.”
****
For once, Belle didn’t leap into my arms to give me a Koala-bear hug and kiss before heading off towards the Chemistry buildings. She looked a little emotionally drained after our little conversation and merely gave me a quick peck on the lips before walking away, clearly lost in thought.
I turned around to head inside, walked into the auditorium-style lecture hall, and sauntered down the steps to my usual seat on the aisle in the fourth row, nodding silently to the familiar faces of my classmates. A minute after sitting down, the rhythmic strikes of high heels on individual stair treads caught my attention, and I turned my head to glance up at the gorgeous honey-blonde babe in a neatly-pressed gray suit.
Assuming she wouldn’t want me to call undo attention to myself, I simply smiled and didn’t verbally greet her. But to my surprise, she paused in the aisle beside my seat and said politely, “Good morning, Matt.”
My smile broadened as I replied in kind, “Good morning, Skylar.”
“How’s Neevie?”
Now I grinned, glad to hear Skylar bring up Naimh entirely on her own. “She’s good, she’s good.”
“Please extend my apologies for not answering her messages. I had a terribly busy weekend and honestly forgot about it until I saw you just now. I’m not avoiding her, I swear.”
“Oh, I didn’t know she’d left you any messages, but she’ll be glad to hear that,” I said with a chuckle. “We had a busy weekend ourselves, but I’ll be happy to pass it along.”
“Thank you kindly.” Skylar gave me one more tight smile and then continued on to the auditorium floor. She nodded to Professor Dussander in passing and then went to the teacher’s desk. Three students quickly approached her, and she spent the remaining time fielding their questions.
At the end of class, I packed up my things and exited through the top of the stairs without a second thought. The sky outside was brightly blue with abundant sunshine, and I looked forward to hearing my name exclaimed in an equally sunny manner as the most gorgeous thing I’d ever seen bounced up to me.
But while Naimh was indeed waiting for me outside, she did not bounce up to me, nor exclaim my name in her typically sunny manner.
“Hey, Matty…” she said rather wearily while wrapping an arm around my waist and giving me a perfunctory peck on the lips.
“Hey yourself,” I replied after we separated. “Everything alright?”
Naimh gave me a perplexed look. “Why wouldn’t it be?”
I smirked. “Well for one thing, you’re normally much more… ebullient in your affection after class.”
She raised both eyebrows. “A girl doesn’t whip out a janitor’s key first thing and you go straight to assuming something’s wrong?”
“I’m sorry,” I apologized. “Sam was pretty cranky this morning, and then Belle was feeling melancholy on the walk to class, so maybe I’m a little hypersensitive to worrying about my girls right now.”
My Irish redhead frowned. “I heard Sam storm off, and I knew Belle was out of sorts. But I thought your little makeout session on the couch helped with that.”
“It did for a while. Thank you for that, by the way. She appreciated it; I know.”
“That doesn’t tell me what happened afterwards.”
“Long story.” I slipped my hand into Naimh’s and started leading her away from the building.
She went with me without protest, giving me a shy smile when I squeezed her hand exactly three times to silently say ‘I. Love. You.’ and then squeezing it back exactly three times in response. But she was unusually quiet overall as we headed to lunch and didn’t even ask me to elaborate about Belle.
I glanced over at Naimh a few times to check on her, but she stared straight ahead of us with her eyes a touch unfocused, and she didn’t seem to realize I was looking at her. So I gave her hand another squeeze, tugged her a little closer, and asked, “Something on your mind?”
“Hmm?” she asked distractedly.
I grinned. “You zoned out there for a minute. Whatcha thinking about?”
“Oh, nothing…”
“Is that ‘nothing’ in the sense of your mind being utterly blank? Or ‘nothing’ in the sense of, ‘It’s no big deal so really, Matty, I might as well tell you’?”
Naimh blushed and glanced away for a moment, her freckles briefly disappearing from view for a bit as her cheeks colored. But she took a deep breath and then squeezed my hand, nodding slowly while collecting her thoughts.
Normally I would patiently wait and let a girl decide when she was ready to continue, but this was turning out to be a day for not waiting. Plus, something in her expression jogged my memory back to the day we’d had the quickie in the janitor’s closet. Not the whole sodomizing the shit outta her against the racks part, but the emotional turmoil on her face when I’d asked how her day had been going and she’d replied that things were ‘grand’.
Thinking of that day, I leaned over and asked softly, “Are you feeling lonely again?”
The way Naimh immediately glanced over at me and then blushed again told me I’d hit the nail right on the head. She sighed wistfully and stared forward, shaking her head slowly. “I’m not lonely…”
“Except that you’re lonely. And me spending all my time with Lily this weekend didn’t exactly help.”
“No, no. We all knew this weekend would be for Lily. She’s a sweet girl and she deserved every minute of you making this past weekend really special for her.”
“Whether she deserved it or not, you also didn’t get to spend much time with me.”
“We’ve been over this already: I can handle sharing you with other girls. We had Friday night together as a group. We had yesterday as a group.”
“Having sex. Not the one-on-one, non-sexual quality time we were supposed to make more of an effort to do.”
“Well I started playing video games with you.”
I winced and took a deep breath. “And then Eva kinda co-opted being my gaming buddy.”
Naimh shook her head preemptively. “I’m not upset with Eva about that. If anything, I’m more upset about the whole fucking you twice and then just walking away thing, and I’ve half a mind to march over to Mrs. Morris’s house and demand an explanation.”
“Please don’t. You know I’d much rather give her a few days to process instead of banging down her door.”
“I know, I know.” Naimh sighed and gave me a wry grin. “I’m actually glad, for your sake, that she became your gaming buddy so readily, because I’m just not really a gamer in general. Alice tried to teach me, and I was willing to do it for your sake, but it was never really going to be ‘my thing’.”
“Then you and I should do more stuff that is ‘your thing’,” I told her with a firm nod. “Let’s find an aquarium or go to the Oakland Zoo or even just take a drive out and do some tidepooling together. I saw how much you loved doing that with Skylar when we went to the beach.”
Naimh’s face fell a bit at the mention of Skylar’s name.
“Oh, that reminds me. She stopped by my desk in class to apologize for not returning your messages.” I arched an eyebrow. “How many did you leave her?”
“What?” she exclaimed a little defensively. “I only left one voicemail on Friday to ask if she wanted to do anything together on Saturday, since I knew you and Lily would be doing your date.”
“Ah, well Skylar told me to assure you that she’s not avoiding you. She’s just been terribly busy.”
Naimh gave me a small smile. “Thanks for passing along the message. It’s not the same as her telling me herself, but… whatever. It’s fine. No big deal. Belle and I went out shopping together on Saturday. It was all good.”
I arched an eyebrow. “Your words say, ‘all good’ but your voice says, ‘this sucks’.”
She sighed and deflated just a bit. She gave me a sad shake of her head and then muttered, “I know I came on too strong. I can only imagine what was going through her mind. Here was this crazy Irish girl she’d met a handful of times, all of a sudden acting like we were best friends. It was too much, too fast. I overdid it.”
“You were just being yourself, which is an awesome human being and an even better friend. You jump in with both feet and you love wholeheartedly, and I love you for it.” I squeezed Naimh’s hand again. “Give her some time to see what I see. It’s only been a week. And she did promise to meet up again sometime, right?”
“Please don’t give me one more reason to feel disappointed. It just feels like nothing is going the way I’d hoped, you know?” she muttered despondently. “Belle found Lily instead of getting closer to me. I tried playing your co-op video game, but Eva became your gamer buddy instead. And now Skylar’s claiming she’s too busy to hang out with me.”
“Skylar probably is really busy.” I squeezed Naimh’s hand. “I think she made an exception to join us on the beach trip because she really, really wanted to go to the beach, and perhaps she even felt like she owed me for the wedding date thing. But if her schedule is anything like Sam’s, then no wonder she hasn’t had much free time.”
“And that brings us back to Sam storming off in a huff this morning.” My girlfriend gave me a look of genuine concern. “What happened?”
I waved her off and sighed. “Sam’s stressed out. I mean, she’s always been a little stressed out; today she was just a little more on-edge than usual. But like you said: she’ll come around. I know we love each other too much to let this become a bigger issue.”
Naimh nodded encouragingly at me, but there was a tension in her eyes as she did so, her emerald-green eyes a little dull.
I frowned and squeezed her hand. “What is it?”
She blinked. “What is what?”
We came to a stop at Hearst, waiting at the traffic light for the crosswalk signal to change. Naimh glanced back over her shoulder at the other people who walked up right behind us, still lost in their own conversations, and she squeezed my hand silently rather than continue.
A minute later the “walk” signal illuminated and we crossed the street along with a small pack of other students. But once we got to the other side, I led Naimh out of the flow of traffic and then down an alley away from the sidewalk.
But to my surprise, she resisted entering the alley and tugged back on my hand only ten feet in. “C’mon, Matty. I’m hungry. Let’s just get some food.”
“Really?” I arched an eyebrow and gave her a skeptical look before shaking my head. “There’s no rush. Food can wait.”
“Wait for what?” She glanced around at the people walking back and forth on the sidewalk and then shrugged. “What’s left to talk about?”
I frowned. “Why are you suddenly in a hurry?”
“I’m not in a hurry,” she muttered defensively. “But it’s lunchtime and the lines are only gonna get longer if we don’t pick a place soon.”
My eyes narrowed as I felt a sense of déjà vu to this morning with Belle, and I asked rather pointedly, “What kind of thought crossed your mind just now? The kind of thought that you want to expunge from your memory because you regret having that thought in the first place?”
Naimh blinked at me. “Why would you think I had some kind of--”
“Because you’re getting defensive all of a sudden, which means you’re feeling guilty for thinking something, and if I rewind my memory back to when we got to the stoplight, you first got this look on your face when I told you Sam and I love each other too much to let this become a bigger issue.”
“You and Sam do love each other too much to let this become a bigger issue.”
“I agree.” I canted my head to the side and scrutinized my redheaded girlfriend. “Does that bother you?”
“Bother me? No, of course not.”
“Neevie…”
“What do you want me to say?”
“I want you to tell me how you honestly feel.”
“How I feel about…?” She pretended to not understand, but there was too much guilt in her eyes for me to ignore.
I took a deep breath, interlaced Naimh’s fingers through mine, and led her deeper into the alley until we were out of earshot of the sidewalk. I leaned back against a wall and then drew my girlfriend into my arms immediately in front of me, holding her close.
She stared into my eyes a little nervously as I cupped her cheeks in my hands and gave her a sweet kiss. The idea was to reassure her, but apparently she was already thinking one step ahead of me, anxiously anticipating that I was about to say something she’d need to feel reassured about. And she remained rather tense before me.
“Does my relationship with Sam bother you? Are you… envious of my feelings for her?” I asked seriously before adding, “And more to the point: Did you feel guilty for thinking - even if only for a moment - that my relationship with her might be on the rocks?”
“Of course not,” Naimh lied, averting her eyes and pursing her lips.
Returning to a hug, I squeezed my arms around her waist and willed her to understand with my gaze that I already knew the truth and that it wouldn’t do her any good to keep pretending that I didn’t.
“Well maybe for a moment I envied her,” she mumbled before standing up straight and giving me a serious look. “Sam’s amazing. She’s smarter than me, harder-working than me, and yes, she’s your Head Girlfriend. Although if I may say so, she hasn’t been a very good Head Girlfriend lately. She’s always so focused on her future that I think she neglects her present - neglects you - assuming you’ll always be there for her no matter what.”
“I will be there for her no matter what, but I get what you’re saying.”
“And every now and again I start to think that maybe I would--” Naimh’s voice didn’t trail off; she abruptly cut her sentence short and shook her head. And after taking a quick breath, she shook her head and continued, “It was just a moment and I didn’t mean anything by it. Sam’s my friend - one of the best friends I have left - and I would never wish her anything but the utmost happiness. You’re my Matty. You’re the great love of my life--”
“But do you worry that maybe you’re not the great love of my life?” I queried, trying to lean left and right so I could look her in the eyes.
But Naimh wouldn’t meet my gaze, turning her head to the right for a bit and then turning to the left, shaking her head and frowning. “Sam’s your Head Girlfriend.”
“The title bothers you.”
“It’s not the title. I don’t envy the title. It’s the idea of the title. Sam’s the one you fell head-over-heels in love with. Not me. Sam’s the one you realized you couldn’t live without, while you were ready to send me off to UCLA as ‘just friends’. Look, it is what it is. S’not your fault nor hers. You two’er made fer ea’chotter. Am jus’ makin’ a holy show o’ me’self ri’now. I’m sorry, truly I’am. You two deser--”
I cut her off with another kiss, reaching up and gripping both cheeks so that she could no longer look away from me. I stopped trying to meet her eyes, instead closing mine completely so I could focus entirely on the touch of her lips against mine. I poured all my passion and love for this incredible young woman who - quite frankly - -I- didn’t deserve. And although she cried just a little bit and initially tried to back out of my grasp, she finally gave a small wail of sorrow and then started kissing me back just as fiercely and as strongly as ever.
Eventually, we had to separate in order to each catch our breath. Naimh sighed, still a bit teary-eyed, and dabbed at the corners of her eyes with her fingertips, taking care not to smear her makeup any more than she might’ve already done. Otherwise I was pretty sure she’d make me take her home rather than let her enter a restaurant looking like a horror show.
“I have an idea,” I stated seriously. “You and I are going to talk to Sam, maybe even as soon as tonight, about this whole ‘Head Girlfriend’ thing.”
“Matty, I told you it wasn’t about the title.”
I shook my head. “I want to tell Sam I intend to spend more time with you. I want to make you a greater romantic priority in my life. You deserve it - you deserve more of my attention than you’ve been getting so far. Sam’s made clear that for as much as she loves me, her focus is on her academics right now. This isn’t any secret. We’ve all known this since before any of us even came to Berkeley.”
Naimh’s eyes narrowed. “I don’t want you making me Head Girlfriend just because Sam’s too busy for you.”
“I don’t think anybody should be Head Girlfriend, really. I have independent relationships with you, Sam, Belle, and now Lily. While the OG BTC may have looked to Sam for leadership more often than not, we’re not in high school anymore. Sam has her priorities, and while I’ve tried to make clear I will never be a demanding boyfriend and will wait for her as long as she needs me to, she somehow still thinks I’m smothering her or something.”
“Is that why she walked out in a huff?”
I shrugged. “Something like that.”
“So you’re just gonna hand me the ‘Head Girlfriend’ title instead?”
“I already said that nobody should be Head Girlfriend. I just want all three of us to sit down and talk together - maybe even include Belle and Lily while we’re at it. I want all of us to make clear to each other what our expectations are of these relationships.” I squeezed Naimh tightly and willed her to understand with my eyes. “I want to make clear to the other three girls that I want to spend more time with you: more one-on-one time, more quality time that isn’t based on sex, for the sake of our relationship. Now do I think that telling Sam I want to spend more time with you will help her feel like I’m less demanding of her? Sure, absolutely. But I want this to be a moment where we can both go, ‘Ooh! Opportunity!’ and take advantage of the time we have.”
Naimh’s eyes were tight, and she shook her head slowly. “I hate that this makes me feel like you’re only settling for me as second-best. Third-best, really, or did you think I never noticed how every time you listed off your three girlfriends out loud, the order always went: ‘Sam, Belle, and Neevie’?”
I swallowed thickly and glanced up at the sky, wracking my brain to search my memory for the kinds of situations she was talking about. And I winced at the knowledge that it wasn’t a very good look.
“I’m sorry if I ever made you feel second - or third - best,” I stated apologetically. “All I can say right now is that this might be the best opportunity for both of us to truly discover what we might mean to each other.”
Naimh pursed her lips and didn’t look happy with the situation. But she remained in my arms and was willing to meet my eyes.
I stared into her stormy emerald irises, seeing the indecision there. So I asked her quite seriously, “In the end there’s only one question that needs answering: Do you want to find out or not?”
Naimh nodded slowly, and after taking a deep breath, she wrapped me up in a fierce hug and then leaned in to quickly peck my lips. And when she pulled back, she managed to give me a brave smile as she replied, “I do.”
****
My loving girlfriend and I had a quiet meal together with enough time for me to walk her to her next class, hand-in-hand. We shared a sweet kiss and then went our separate ways. I went to my next class, and afterwards headed straight home.
Out of habit, I dropped my bag against the couch and went straight to turn on the N64. I’d been playing Mario Golf for a while now, fine-tuning my game, as a way of blowing off steam after school. Normally I’d get in a few holes before Eva arrived to play Perfect Dark with me, although we’d also played Super Smash Bros. a few times as well.
But while I booted up the game and held the N64 controller in my hands, I never actually started the game. I just sat there, staring at the screen without actually seeing the screen, wondering whether or not Eva would come.
Certainly, it seemed likely that she wouldn’t - not after avoiding us all weekend. I knew that she knew I’d told the girls about the two times we’d had sex (Lily had briefly talked to her in their room at Mrs. Morris’s house), and I knew Eva had said she needed a few days to process. On the other hand, this was one of the few times all week Eva knew she could be alone with me without any of the other girls around. If there was ever a time for her to want to talk to me, this was it.
But then her regular time came and went without the doorbell ringing. I still hadn’t started Mario Golf, too preoccupied with my thoughts to even bring myself to hit the red button. One minute passed… and then two… and then five.
“She’s not coming,” I told myself aloud into the open air, seven minutes after the time Eva would usually arrive. And after taking a deep breath, I finally hit ‘Start’.
And then the doorbell rang exactly twice.
