I didn’t quite pass out, but the ceiling did spin in circles above me for quite a while before I was able to find my sense of balance and roll over onto my side in a fetal position. And I groaned in weary agony while girlish giggles emanated around me.
Eventually, though, Alice and Mari returned to the bed and helped me sit up, clean up, and then get dressed. Mari seemed to relish in doting on her boyfriend, being quite maternal in her care, while Alice simply wanted to get a move on. And finally all three of us headed downstairs together.
My other three girlfriends and Eva were all hanging out in the living room with the remnants of brunch spread across the dining table. Naimh immediately popped up and said, “I’ll go heat up the food.”
“Oh, please let me,” Mari insisted. “I wanna feed him.”
“Well you can snuggle with him a little more while I heat up the food and then you can feed him,” Naimh pointed out.
Mari brightened and squeezed my hand, immediately leading me over to the couch. Belle scooted over to give us some room while Sam got up and went to join Naimh. Meanwhile, Alice went over to the armchair to give Eva a quick fist bump and then perched herself on the armrest.
We chatted for a bit and Mari snuggled with me until the food was ready, and then we relocated to the dining table. Mari refused to let me touch either fork or spoon, and she really did feed me. I started laughing with a mouthful of food once when Belle started feeding Mari. And when Alice grabbed a fork and tried to feed Belle, I nearly spit out some scrambled eggs from laughing so hard.
After brunch, Naimh bumped Alice’s arm and asked, “Did you get enough ‘priority service’ this morning? Or do you need to take Matty back upstairs?”
I swallowed thickly, feeling a touch of fear running down my spine. Mari may have talked Alice out of trying the crazy Avalambitaka position in the shower last night, but we’d still done Advanced Dhenuka and of course Utphallaka. And I wondered if Alice might seriously want to try some other Kama Sutra positions before she left, chafing or not.
But Alice took one look at my face and immediately burst out laughing. She waved Naimh off and said, “Nah, I got my cookies. If I try to keep going, I won’t be able to sit down for a week. Mari and I have about an hour before we have to go. I really wanna spend this time with ALL my friends.”
Naimh thought about that for a moment and then pronounced, “Super Smash Bros. it is.”
Alice grinned and then extended her fist to Naimh. “Boom.”
So we played Super Smash Bros. for about an hour, with all eight of us rotating in and out of the 4-player game. Alice and I weren’t even particularly competitive, far more interested in enjoying everyone’s company than in winning.
We all had a good time, although both Mari and Belle would occasionally get a little maudlin over Mari’s impending departure, getting misty-eyed and giving each other wistful looks. Alice, of course, acted like it was a random Tuesday, far more interested in playing than in getting overly sentimental.
Eventually, it was time to go, and Alice went around giving each of the girls a hug. “Thanks for playing with me,” she said rather quietly, one-by-one.
“Thanks for playing with me.”
“Thanks for playing with me.”
I found myself surprised by Alice’s melancholy tone. Up until now, she’d been totally nonchalant about flying off to school, other than to use it as an excuse to demand ‘priority service’. But now that it was time to go, there were actual tears in her eyes and she clutched each of the girls a little tighter than I’d ever really seen her hold them before. But she spoke no other words, just sort of listened and nodded as the other girls gave her their last goodbyes. And in the end, I escorted her, Mari, and Belle out to my minivan.
Unlike Zofi’s transcontinental flight out of San Francisco, Alice and Mari were able to take a cheap commuter flight from the regional Oakland airport nearby. I was driving and Belle simply wanted to join to drop off her BFF at the airport. So I loaded up their luggage, but when I went back to the driver’s seat, I found Belle already seated in the chair and holding my keys while Mari rode shotgun beside her.
“I’m driving. You can sit in the back,” Belle told me, glancing at Alice on the middle-row bench seat.
I arched an eyebrow, Alice shrugged, and I climbed in beside her. Belle backed the minivan out of the driveway. But as my little Annabelle shifted the vehicle into Drive and started us down the road, Alice suddenly shuddered and started sobbing.
“Oh, shit,” I muttered, instinctively wrapping up the crying girl in my arms and tucking her face into the crook of my neck. “Alice… Alice… What’s going on?”
She didn’t answer me right away, so I just kept stroking her and soothing her while Mari looked back at us from the shotgun seat and Belle kept her focus on the road. It took a few minutes, and we’d almost reached the freeway by the time Alice got her little crying fit under control.
“You okay?” I asked gently, once she’d stopped sniveling and taken the time to blow her nose into a couple of tissues I’d gotten her.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah…” she muttered, in a tone of mild disgust with herself for losing control. “It’s just hitting me all at once. I told myself it was no big deal. At least, it should be less of a big deal than flying off to college in the first place. But somehow, this time it’s… it’s…”
“It’s hitting you all at once?” I offered for her.
“Yeah…” Alice admitted.
“You could try doing a little bit of crying every day for a few days, like me,” Mari suggested with a shrug. “But then that’s never really been your style.”
“For realz,” Alice agreed.
I rubbed her shoulder and remarked, “This is the part where I tell you to snap out of it and stop being a pussy because your wistful looks are killing my mood.”
Alice immediately smacked my upper arm, and she flashed me a wry grin. “I have a pussy and are therefore allowed to be a pussy every once in a while.”
“Her logic is infallible,” Belle drawled from the driver’s seat.
I chuckled and nodded.
Alice snuggled a little deeper beneath my arm. And in a quiet voice, she murmured, “Promise me you’ll miss me.”
I frowned and stared down at her for a moment. My initial instinct was to tease her about getting sentimental, but instead I took a deep breath and stated sincerely, “I promise I will miss you. I missed having my best buddy here with me this past semester, and I will miss you again this coming semester. Your absence left an empty hole in my life, and no fewer than three different girls went out of their way to try and be ‘the new Alice’ in my life.”
She picked her head up and looked at me curiously. “Wait, what?”
“He’s telling the truth,” Belle confirmed without looking back at us. “Not that we ever thought we could replace you, but I definitely wanted to be ‘the new Alice’ in the sense that I knew Matty would always confide in you. Neevie bought Perfect Dark because she wanted to be his new gaming buddy and spend more time with him. And in the end, Eva seemed to fall naturally into the gaming role, if not the ‘confidante’ role.”
“Eva’s a pretty decent gamer. With time and practice, she might even get to ‘good’,” Alice pronounced.
“High praise…” Mari drawled.
“From her, it is,” I stated with a smile before rubbing Alice’s shoulder. “But in all seriousness, you know you’re irreplaceable. And even though we’ve been five hundred miles apart, I’ve never stopped thinking of you as my best friend.”
Alice nodded with teary eyes as she hugged me closer. “Mine, too. My best friend. Even if you happen to have a dick.”
I chuckled. “Especially because I happen to have a dick.”
“A gloriously big dick made for giving me orgasm after orgasm after orgasm in-between rounds of GT2.” Alice sighed. “A best friend who WANTS to play round after round of GT2 with me. Where the fuck am I gonna find a best friend like that?”
“A friend with a dick who likes playing video games?” Mari laughed. “That’s pretty much the definition of a college male. If you don’t have enough of those at UCLA, I can point you in the direction of a whole bunch of them at Caltech.”
“You know what I mean,” Alice muttered with a sigh, returning her gaze up to my eyes. “Where the fuck am I gonna find someone like you?”
“You can’t,” I told her plainly. “Just like I’ll never be able to find someone like you.”
“Pssht. You already did. Eva’s hot and a good gamer… decent gamer… and with how close the two of you are getting, I’m sure she’d be happy to take on the ‘confidante’ role.”
“Eva will never have the history you and I share, going all the way back to fourth grade. Just like you’ll never find a guy exactly like me. There are no Alice 2.0s or Matty 2.0s except in the sense of you - special and unique you - evolving into someone new. None of us can ever be replaced, and that’s okay. It opens us up to find completely NEW people to make friends with.”
“Easy for you to say. You’re already surrounded by incredibly hot new babes to go along with the three incredibly hot BTC babes you brought to school with you. It hasn’t been so easy for me at UCLA.”
I frowned. “You never told me you were having trouble making friends.”
“It’s not that I haven’t made friends; I have. I’m hot, I have big boobs, and I like playing video games and talking about comic books with the guys in the dorms. They flock to me like moths to a flame.”
“Flocks and moths? Those two metaphors don’t actually--”
“I don’t care, Mari,” Alice cut her off, but she chuckled and winked at her friend. “Nerd.”
“Says the girl playing video games and talking comic books with the guys in the dorms,” Mari shot back teasingly. “Geek.”
Alice shrugged. “Guys like girl geeks.”
“Oh, you don’t have to tell ME.” Mari squished her tits together with her upper arms, creating prominent cleavage in her scoop-neck cardigan.
“But the difference between you and me is that you’ve chosen a life of long-distance loyalty to this dude,” Alice pronounced, hugging herself against my side.
“That’s still a life you can choose for yourself if it’s what you want,” Mari stated.
But Alice immediately shook her head. “Matty and I have never been like that and I’m not about to start now. I actually WANT a boyfriend down at UCLA. I’m just… I’m trying to figure out how to go about it.”
“You can probably start with walking into a dorm lounge with your big boobs on display and start talking about video games and comic books,” I suggested with a smirk. “I’m fairly confident that would drum up a number of interested candidates. But then I thought you had your eye on… Steve?”
“Scott,” Mari corrected for me.
“Right, right.” I shrugged. “I’ve never really been good with guys’ names.”
“Oh, we know,” Mari confirmed.
“I still want to get to know Scott and find out if there’s anything there, but even if not, I’m not worried about finding interested candidates,” Alice said. “I think the bigger difficulty will be finding one who can measure up to Matty.”
“Keep a ruler in your purse so you can whip it out and measure a guy when he whips it out,” Belle drawled, and Mari immediately covered her mouth while blushing.
“NOT what I meant,” Alice groaned. “You know what I mean. Even if Matty and I have never been romantic, we all know he’s still the gold standard against which all potential boyfriends must be compared.”
Alice turned back to me, looked up into my eyes, and hugged me close. “Your patience. Your understanding. Your willingness to patiently keep trying to understand even when you don’t understand. The warmth of your heart. The kindness of your soul.”
“And a bigass dick that stretches you in ways no mere mortal will ever be able to match,” Belle added helpfully.
Alice smirked, but she did go ahead and add, “And a bigass dick that stretches me in ways no mere mortal will ever be able to match.”
I shrugged and gave Alice a quick peck on the forehead.
She sighed and buried her face in my chest. “You spoiled me. I lived my entire life before college with you as my best friend, and I have missed you these last few months. This winter break reminded me of how much fun we have together… and how lonely I felt when we were apart. And there’s a part of me that wishes I could go back in time and change my mind about not coming with you all to Berkeley in the first place.”
I sighed. “It would’ve been nice. But regretting something like that isn’t going to help you going forward.”
“I know, I know. It’s just…” Alice sighed. “I feel like I’m twelve again.”
I blinked. “Twelve?”
“When I was the tomboy suddenly growing boobs and all the boys except for you started treating me differently. That’s obviously not who I am anymore, but I still think I’m having another identity crisis.”
“In what way?”
Alice sighed and glanced up at Mari, stating softly, “I’m NBG. I mean, I was already NBG before, but it feels different now. I’m evolving, and I’m doing so in a different way from you, from Holly. We’re taking separate paths, with every step taking us a little further away from the BTC, a little further away from each other. For years and years my sense of identity was defined as two things: BTC, and Matty’s best friend. But now?”
“You will always be BTC, and you will always be my best friend,” I stated sincerely before she could say otherwise.
But Alice shook her head sadly. “No I won’t. I’m BTC alumni now. And the more time we spend apart, the less I’ll be your best friend.”
“We’re Forever Friends,” I insisted.
“I’ll be your high-school best friend forever, sure. But I’ll make this simple for you, Matty: One day, you won’t be MY best friend anymore.”
I frowned. “You make it sound so depressing.”
“Not depressing, just realistic,” Alice chided with a rueful sigh. “It’s our next evolution, whatever that may be.”
“But whatever our next evolution may be, I promise I will miss you,” I assured her. “And I promise I’ll always be your Forever Friend.”
“I know you will. And I promise I’ll always be yours.” Alice took a deep breath and gave me a brave smile. “I know the uncertainty of my upcoming evolution is definitely freaking me out right now, but I’m not twelve anymore. I’m not gonna let this cripple me. I’m old enough and wise enough to realize this isn’t the end; it’s a new beginning. It’s an adventure without the BTC safety net. It’s part of the reason I chose to go to UCLA in the first place. To find out who I am without the group. Quite frankly, Matty, to find out who I am without YOU.”
I blinked in surprise. “What are you saying?”
“I’m saying I always knew you and I weren’t ever going to be romantic like that. I’m saying I always knew that as long as we were together, I would never grow, never evolve. I always knew that I’d never be able to find a boyfriend… find a husband… so long as you were a constant presence in my life.” Alice took a deep breath, looked up into my eyes, and gave me a wry shrug. “I always knew that with you, I’d be forever twelve.”
“The only way you’d be able to grow up would be to leave me.”
Alice nodded. “You were my childhood friend. You were the BEST childhood friend. But we’re not children anymore. We’re maturing into adults now, finding our new evolutions. You and me? We’re going to be different people the next time we meet. So this isn’t exactly ‘I’ll see you soon’. This really is ‘goodbye’, Matty. It’s saying farewell to the best buddies you and I used to be.”
A frog caught in my throat, and hot tears splashed down to my cheeks.
“Ah shit, dude, don’t start crying. You’re gonna make ME cry again,” Alice scolded. But it was already too late. I was crying, and she was crying again, and then we were hugging each other close once more.
“I love you, Alice,” I muttered while clutching her tightly.
“I know,” she deadpanned in her best Han Solo voice. And a moment later, we both cracked smiles.
“I promise I’m gonna miss you,” I told her sincerely.
She sighed, hugged me back, and then mumbled through tears, “I promise I’m gonna miss you.”
“Thanks for playing with me.”

Ok. First of all, this is fiction. Second, it's a sex story. Finally, real world issues like monogamy, STD's, etc. don't have to exist. Trying to believe that Matty can only choose one and end up with only one is too real world. Could he end up with just one? Absolutely. However, if it turns to 3, 4, 5, etc. the story will be just as good and possibly even better.

Am a bit sad that BTC2 is ending. Am happy to see some new friends enter then exit. Lily was fun but not enough depth. Eva was someone I liked but is not committed. The saucy Latina was fun but lacking in depth. Luna is great but just a friend. Skylar is awesome but at a different stage in life. She will be a long term friend of BTC. Had been looking forward to second semester, especially the battle of big breasted bisexual blondes. The re-emergence of Mari has been my personal highlight. Love that girl. Am so happy that she has finally claimed what she wants.

Alice has done the right thing for her and Matt and has done it in a way that we can only hope is a wake up call for all involved. I believe Matt still thinks a polygamous relationship with Sam, Nieve, Eve, Skylar and Bell is working out for him and now he wants to add Mari into the mix. No wonder those fever dreams are driving him nuts. Everyone in that kind of relationship has to be totally on board with it. I think he's in for a rude awakening. I'm thinking Alice isn't going to be the only one to make this kind of decision.

Wonder if they’ll be a huge jump in time from BTC2 to BTC 3. By the way things are going with these chapters it almost feels like everyone is saying goodbye in a permanent manner. Sam has a ways to go to prove to Matt she’s worth fighting for, but it’ll be extremely interesting to see when Matt tells her to pay more attention to him that she’ll either push away or accept that career isn’t everything. But I feel like when that “ultimatum” is spelled out for her then it’ll be like a train that can’t be stopped and they’ll have to fully commit to each other romantically or it’ll be devastating. Personally I don’t believe the 4 wives thing will be a reality because it’s not practical from every standpoint. So with Sam he needs to be really certain it’s her he wants to end up with because it’s do or die. Still wondering about the mystery blonde in the photo, my suspicion is Skylar but one can only hope lol.

Alice realizes the group will not remain the same. Most things don’t. Matt was a part of her life, always will be, but he won’t be her whole world. She will find someone, like the rest of the girls. Maybe Matt will end up with one, maybe he won’t. It’s call growing up.
