I frowned and walked forward, narrowing my eyes to peer at the displays. Lisa appeared to have AutoCAD models up on-screen, the same as I always had on-screen every single day. But as I came closer, I realized that the models weren’t of any designs I would be doing for my day job.
The screen on the left showed a 3D model of the Three Gorges Dam across the Yangtze River in China. The screen in the middle showed a Tesla Model X. And the screen on the right displayed a non-existent suspension bridge across The Grand Canyon.
“Umm… okay…” I began uncertainly, reaching for the computer mouse. I started clicking through the various menus, zooming in on different features across the models and inspecting the work. The models appeared to be original, but they most certainly weren’t mine, and I asked curiously, “Did you do these?”
“I did!” Lisa said proudly.
“This is… impressive,” I complimented her with a smile. “I’ll even admit, these are better than I’d be able to do if I tried to make original models.”
“Oh, you’re too kind,” Lisa said with a blush and a modest expression.
“But I’m not sure what this has to do with you saying I can quit my day job.”
“Don’t you see? I can now do the work FOR you! And in far less time!”
I blinked. “Wait, what?”
“I mean it. I can do your CAD modeling work for you, and I can teach Moemi how to do this as well. WE can do your work for you, which will free up more of your time for sex!”
I blinked twice. “Oh… Uhhh… But I’ll still have to attend meetings and discuss my work, and I won’t be able to do that intelligently if I’m not DOING that work myself.”
“You can still be there for the initial planning meetings and be involved in the overall design. But the time-consuming grunt work? The agony of double-checking your designs, compiling, and rendering? Moemi and I can handle that for you in a fraction of the time. Watch!”
Lisa reached out to touch her hand to the central monitor. The screen started flickering, and I noticed a moment later that her eyes were flickering in sync with the monitor. And in less than a minute, a complete 3D model of a NASA space shuttle was displayed on-screen.
My jaw dropped. “Um… how the hell did you do that?”
Lisa shrugged. “Direct interface. Much faster than typing or clicking.”
“Holy shit!”
“And now comes the part where I said you can quit your day job!” Lisa said enthusiastically. “Why work for a big corporation getting paid peanuts? Advertise yourself as a freelance contractor instead!”
My mind was still blown having watched Lisa create a full-frame 3D model in seconds just by touching my monitor, so I couldn’t muster an immediate response.
“Plus, I wanted to show you THIS new CAD model I made,” she continued brightly, touching the central monitor again.
This time, all three of the displays changed. The monitor on the left showed a close-up of a head and the monitor on the right showed internal circuit boards, but the monitor in the middle showed the slowly rotating form of a body.
