Angelwing Troubleshooting
🕑 Added 2021-05-10 17:45:38 +0000 UTCAfter almost a week of the mod being out, a few issues have cropped up to the surface that some of you might be experiencing!
1. PLEASE Run your game at least ONCE before installing the DEMASTER!
*This is listed in the instructions but people blast past it often.
This issue causes a config.txt problem where your SteamID doesn't get properly applied to the folder that includes the config.txt file. To FIX, either uninstall/reinstall everything or locate your SquareEnix folder in your User folder and attempt to associate your SteamID to the folder by replacing the random digits folder name with your SteamID. (This won't always work and your SteamID can be difficult to find)
2. If the game opens but the console window vanishes and nothing actually loads or the game immediately crashes, run the ffviii.exe and ffviii_launcher.exe as admin.
3. Do NOT use the DEMASTER FFVIII_Launcher.exe unless the game's default Launcher doesn't work for you. Just make sure you've made all of the selections for Setup in the normal launcher before you do so, as the only way to access it after that is through a launcher config file located in your Users folder.
4. SpecialK will fix the framerate issues with the windows 10 update. Make sure you turn off all other renderers other than OpenGL and turn on Sleepless Window Thread (unless you have the newest version)
5. There is a small png page loading lag when each bg loads initially. This is incredibly obvious in 3x (and is the worst in the fire cavern), as the game doesn't give itself enough time to load the next bg before it's moving the character. Instead of adding a delay like the original PSX game did, we're working on a way for the DEMASTER to recognize DDS files for field backgrounds, and this will solve this lag for everyone.

Also, Wade is currently working on importing the 2013 version of Angelwing Ultima, so that should be done very soon!

Yes, it is finally working. Thank you. Unfortunately I've moved on to another game at the moment. Maybe the other updates will be finished by the time I circle back. Or there will be another update breaking everything. Anyway, I would suggest you mark at the top of the page what version it should be on currently, the page you link doesn't say. A lot of people follow the video which is for 1.2.8 and links to v1300 with nothing stating that there is anything higher so people assume it is the latest one. I'm not accusing you, I just think it might help resolve some issues, unless you just enjoy replying to people. Thanks again.

You need to make sure you install DEMASTER v1300 and then install the files from v1302 over it. You can leave your DEMASTER_EXP folder alone. Let me know if that helps!

First, I did play the game unmoded. I then followed this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMxupLpIFr4 I mistakenly followed it too close and selected the dinput8.dll down to FFVIII_Launcher The game loaded with some things changed but the backgrounds were still blurry I noticed that demaster.conf was missing when loading and rechecked the video at 15:00 mark where I discovered that the files are not the same Then I checked this thread which said not to copy DEMASTER FFVIII_Launcher.exe So I uninstalled everything. Clean sweep. Reinstalled. Played game unmoded again. New game. Save. Exit. Followed instructions without DEMASTER FFVIII_Launcher.exe Included demaster.conf When it tries to launch it reads DEMASTER: :ApplyUvPatch: :The addresses are wrong! We found no ADD byte ptr[esi+8] at given rel call Shuts down After trying a few more times I uninstalled everything again and reinstalled it. Played unmoded again. Read above again. I am not seeing a config.txt file in my FF8 folder, is this my issue?

Did you succeed? I never used Special K before and don't find the options where I could - Disable other renderers - Enable sleepless window When starting the game, I hear the MGS sound and the game crash before Squaresoft logo. I uninstalled Special K to be able to play again.

Hi MCindusMODS. I couldn't get this mod to load. I had followed all the steps and retried a couple of times and it still leads back to the original texture. I can't await a fix for the loading lag and I hope you can find a solution for that :) The release of Lunatic Pandora Remastered sounds awesome, all in one mod-pack and thanks for this good step-by-step guide :)

I cannot get this (or any other DEMASTER mods) to work at all. Everything I do and everything I've tried just leads the game back to loading the original textures. I've confirmed that the textures are being replaced in the file in demaster_exp within the root folder. I've loaded one at a time into a fresh install. Nothing I do changes the textures. Presumably they're all being loaded from the main.zzz file. The game is loading via the demaster launcher, (it would not load without installing that) but no dice. Should I be getting lines like this if it is working correctly? common_load_texture: tex_type: WORLDMAP, pal: 4, unk: 00000000, bHaveHD: FALSE, Tpage: 22

Try disabling the log and debug options from the DEMASTER manager settings. This should really help that page loading

You need to install it as the opengl renderer and disable other renderers. Enabling sleepless window thread should fix the fps issues

This will not work on an unofficial version of the game. You must use the most recent update of the Remastered version to use DEMASTER, and it will not work on cracked or pirated versions of the game. I suspect that's your issue because it works well for everyone else. If this isn't your issue, let me know and I can walk you through install etc.
