I always knew what I wanted. Ever since I was a little girl there was an image in my head of what I wanted my life to be and I was doing what I could to reach that goal. I imagined myself having a beautiful house, a good husband, and a life I would enjoy, and at first, I thought

“It was the same amount as a down payment,” he just said, knowing how upset I was. “Crystal, really, it’s not that big of a deal. We can go whenever you want, we’ll just need to make it a little less expensive. And we can always go to Vegas instead of stupid Paris”
I felt heat run over my body. I don’t think I ever was as mad as I was in that moment of my life, looking at that man who I shared everything I had with. He knew that it was special to me and he ruined it anyway. Back when we just got married Topher promised me that we would go traveling in Europe to visit all the beautiful cities and I was waiting for it ever since. There was never a right moment, but a year back I insisted that we need to start saving for it. “Crystal, don’t be like that,” he said, looking at me. I knew that he wanted me to calm down so things would get back to the way they were and usually I allowed it to happen. But not now. Now I was just too angry.
“Fine,” I said, breathing out slowly. I looked up at him, hoping that it looked as if I calmed down. “Let’s take your car for a ride. If it’s already here I want to at least show it around the town”
Topher smiled wide, thinking that he won the battle, and leaned to kiss me on the cheek.
“Get ready, darling! You’re going to enjoy it so much”
I went to change from my robe to the dress. Before I went out I gave myself another look in the mirror. Can a woman like me really be happy next to a man that barely notices how attractive I am? First, I needed to take that ride.
Topher already waited for me in his Corvette and barely looked at me as I opened the door. It was another hit to my self-esteem, but I could take it. It was at least comfortable. I was in my seat, looking out of the window as the world outside became a blur. Topher was doing the best he could to show off how fast

“We should go there, talk about how long it’s going to take,” I said, giving him a card and that was when I saw his face slowly go even whiter.
I thought that damage to his car would be a big blow for him, but now that he had the card in his hand, it looked like Topher just saw a ghost. I didn’t know what caused this reaction, but I certainly liked it. If he was willing to make my life shittier with his behavior I was fully willing to do the same.
“I don’t think it’s a good place. Maybe you should go there and ask them if we can move it to another shop?” he asked, looking at me with a silent plea.
“It’s nonsense! It’s a good shop and I’m sure you don’t want to spend any more time and money on moving it around town. You’re the man here, so you should fix it if you don’t like something”
It was laughable to me. Topher wanted to be the head of the house as long as it worked for him and was easy, but now he needed to get in the league with the big boys and fix his mistakes by himself.
We ordered a taxi and went to Dom's shop. “We knew each other in school,” Topher said, trying to get a hold of the conversation.
“Yes, we knew each other well back then,” Dom laughed and I could see my husband’s shoulders sagging as if he was trying to take as little space as possible. “I guess this baby is what brought you here?”
Topher looked relieved as Dom was now paying attention to the car.
“It’s a nasty hit, it will take some time to fix it. We will also need to find the right details so it would stay just as beautiful after the fix. Might take a while, but you don’t mind if you’ll have to come over a few times to finish the work perfectly, right?”

Topher looked like he didn’t want me to go, but I had a little care about what he wanted. I went to where Dom had pointed and closed the door behind me. I left a tiny crack and, to my luck, I could still see them. Now Dom was
acting much different from Topher and I was excited to see it.

“I just had dry lips, okay?” he said, getting more frustrated by the minute. “I didn’t know that there was a color in it, I just wanted to moisturize them”
“Since when do you care about your dry lips?” I asked, barely stopping myself from laughing even harder. I knew that he was lying to me and it felt so good to get him in the corner.
“It just doesn’t feel good, okay? Can you stop with the questions so we can go now?”
He stormed out of the house and I just looked at his back still smiling. I knew that he was hiding the truth from me, but it was okay. I was about to find out whether my husband wanted it or not.
We drove in my car and now Topher was in the passenger seat. Mine was much less expensive or flashy, but he had to live with it now that he broke his Corvette.
As soon as we arrived at the shop I saw Dom standing in the front, waiting for us. He had the same friendly smile on his face and I was so happy to see him, unlike my husband. It’s going to take a couple hours anyway”
I was a little disappointed hearing that, but it also stroked my ego to hear the way he was talking to me. I was about to get upset and leave with nothing when Dom said something else.
“We usually keep the garage door open from the side of the street, it’s right next to the coffee shop entrance. If you’ll get bored there maybe you will want to come in and take a look at what kind of job I’m doing with your husband”
Again, there was a heavy meaning to his words. I wondered if he saw me back there on the first day when I was looking at him and Topher, but it didn’t really matter now. I was ready to take that invitation.
“I think I just might stop by,” I smiled at him. When Dom left I did take my sweet time walking to where he said the door was open.
