MURK Sketches
🕑 Added 2020-05-24 00:27:38 +0000 UTCI was planning to make one more illustration about Merfolks, but I wanted to explore a sensuality that was exotic and also dark... and thus MURK was born in my mind.
First I made some simple sketches, thinking about the silhouette and movement...
I wanted to make another type of merman... an Octopus-Man (or Cecaelia), like Ursula from the Little Mermaid...
Once I found one that I liked, I started to add a little more detail.
I came to realize a more slender silhouette, but I abandoned the idea thinking so much about exploring the sensuality of chubbie bodies, as well as (since the association with Ursula would be inevitable) perform a "gender bend"...
I must confess, I love Octopuses and their wonderful Aappearance.
And for me it was extremely important to try to represent all the Graciosity, Strangeness and Fluidity of his tentacles.
The work ... was huge!
Because I didn't want to stylize/cartoonize the tentacles (and it suckers) too much to the point of mischaracterizing it.
It was many, many hours ...
Ah yes, I also wanted to play with a Queer and provocative personality in the character ... Bring sinuous, charming airs, and suggest a lurking danger...

Oh My Dearest! Thank you SO Much! I must say that the relation you've made between my Art proposal and Sam Smith left me immensely grateful. I like Sam Smith a lot (and I went crazy with "How Do You Sleep?") ... the way he plays with Masculinity and Femininity ... is simply Iconic. Thank you so much my dear

You’re the best! I don’t know why but I though about Sam Smith when I look at him, they share the same sensuality that is both feminine and masculine!
