Ele é a Entidade Original que representava os Oceanos antes do surgimento de Zeus e os Outros Olimpianos (Poseidon é irmão de Zeus, e Netuno é o nome Romano de Poseidon). Oceanus era tanto o Titã dos oceanos e mares quanto, para alguns, ele é a própria água dos oceanos.
