They look like seals and live among the seals, but they are capable to change into human form by shedding their skin.
The Selkie then "undress" they seal skin, and walk on land to dance and drink among humans, and even to love someone... and after this, they dress up they seal skin again, and get back to de ocean.
It is said that Selkies are very beautiful and charming, being very hard to not fall in love for them...

Oh my god....usually they depict the whole courtship of selkies negatively with the men hiding their skins so that they’re trapped on land. This one looks so sweet like a genuine fondness for his partner in all his forms and especially with the way you explicate the selkie as coding for trans and genderqueer. YES! So well thought out!
