Well, i'm glad you didn't get hurt by the battery acid. It could have gotten worse... Funny how things like this had to happen to you now, especially when you're about to move to the new place ㅋㅋ

Yes, normal batteries can explode in rare circumstances. These circumstances are usually: -mixing used up and fresh batteries in the same device (i.e. only replacing some of them, instead of replacing all) -mixing different battery types (rechargeable vs. non-rechargeable) -generally too old batteries (long time past the expiration date) -faulty device (short circuit or constant high current consumption) -faulty batteries (manufacturing failure) Luckily, these types of batteries (unlike the lithium batteries in cell phones etc) don't explode with a lot of force and without a huge flame and smoke. But the fluid that leaks is an acid, so you definitely shouldn't get it into your eyes, mouth or an open wound. Also, the acid usually ruins the device and can leave stains on all kinds of materials, including wood, metal and wallpaper.

Yea battery acid is not a good thing to be touching and it's good it didn't cause more damage to the door and it was just the batteries that got damaged. Usually you can tell when batteries are getting bad because they swell up but when they're inside the door lock it must be almost impossible to tell unless you open it lol

Of course this had to happen just before moving out :DD

다사다난한 한해를 보내시군요 ㅋㅋ
