‘인생이 너무 짧구나. 결국 언젠가 내가 사라지는 것이 너무 억울하고 허무하다’
라는 생각을 했다. 어이 없지만 정말 이런 생각이 그 순간 들었다. 가끔 그런 사색을 할 때가 있긴 하지만 낮잠자고 일어나는 순간에 그런 생각이 들 건 뭐람. 그런데 그런 생각을 함과 동시에 조조가 보였다.
한평생 착한 마음만 가지고 살아가는데도 억울하리만큼 짧은 수명을 가진 강아지들. 나보다도 훨씬 짧은 시간을 살다 갈테지만 매순간을 온전히 느끼며 사는 조조. 산책에 열광하고 풀냄새에 기뻐하는 조조를 보니 ‘허무’라는 단어는 감히 생각하면 안될 것 같았다.
인생의 현타는 이렇게 느닷없이 찾아온다. 어느 날은 유독 재미있고 어느 날은 유독 허무하고.
확실한 건 조조는 내 인생의 큰 의미라는 것. 내일도 조조랑 산책 많이 해야지.

Things do change often but if we were always in the same mood, things would be boring. Even though we're not always happy, the bad moments make us appreciate the good ones more.

Realizing that life only lasts for a limited time could be depressing. But it can also be a powerful motivation not to waste a single day and instead enjoy every day to the best possible extent. Edit: Naver fooled me once again. Translating it word by word and also with Google gave a totally different meaning to the post. So this actually is about Jojo's lifespan. The sad truth is, that our furry friends usually have a far shorter lifespan than we do. But also loved fellow humans can leave suddenly and unexpectedly. The moral of the story is still the same, though. Enjoy everyday together as much as you can. This way, in the end there will still be sadness, but at least there will be be no regrets "if only we spent more time together".
