June 4-Track A-Side: Stay Alive
🕑 Added 2025-06-30 21:55:10 +0000 UTCI wanted to write a song about depression, its oppressive force, and the untrue darkness it casts on the lives of those who suffer from it. The way it's portrayed in this song is strongly influenced by this quote from Martin Luther:
"All glory of victory must be ascribed to God Himself, not by any means to us. We are far too insignificant for this. Here, however, the Word of God is required, the Word which promises and extends grace to the believers, so that when they have been hurled into so many great trials and are weighted down under such great and crafty spirits, they nevertheless fight their way out and triumph. But to be born of God is to believe in Jesus Christ. He who believes in Christ is now a warrior...for we are still engaged in the battle itself and are about to be victorious. God has placed us in the midst of wolves, in the Kingdom of the devil. As weapons he has given us his Word and Spirit; He tells us to do battle and to conduct ourselves as bold warriors under Him Himself as our Prince as He Himself looks on and is also victorious."
This song is built off of that idea of the battle of darkness, which we fight not in the hope that we can defeat it ourselves, but in the faith that a greater force will overwhelm the darkness, when our time for enduring it is over.
Recording:

Lyrics:
It captured me so long ago
The hopelessness of home
The lies it told me left their mark on
Everything I own
It fills my cup with dirt
It laughs at every word
Making sure I do not hear the truth
The one memory that I can never lose
I am a hostage to my self
The tortures it invents
Walls so close I cannot move
Though I’ve paced ten thousand steps
Its floors are stained with ash
Its halls are hung in black
Til lightning strikes the highest battlement
The one memory that I cannot forget
“I’ll take hell
To make sure you stay alive
Just stay alive
Until I come”
No light comes
But sometimes I think I hear
A voice calling clear
And the water’s roar
I’ll stay down
And fight it for one more breath
Pray that’s all that’s left
Until you’re here
“I’ll take hell
To make sure you stay alive
Just stay alive
Until I come”

I've always personally been drawn to the idea of a tourniquet, allowing for a power to stop the bleeding, but leaving space for the self in the triumph 🙂 Thank you for sharing your art!! I hope we'll see more 4-track songs in the future
