"Palomica" means "dove" in Spanish (I think). A friend of mine passed away last month, who was a lover of St. Francis. There's a story of St. Francis seeing a boy carrying turtledoves to the market, asking the boy for them, and raising and taming them at his monastery. I hope you've found your nest on the other side, Alan.
Recording:
Track 1: Piano
Tracks 2-3: 12-string guitar
Track 4: Vocals
Lyrics
Palomica
Stranger to earth
snow-white dove
Covered in dirt
Who will take you home?
Who’ll make white the snow?
No more flight left in your soul
For what were you caged and sold?
Wild dogs
Led you out of bounds
Snapped your bones
Dragged you out of town
How far did you fall?
Who can hear you call?
“Take your shield and rescue me
How much more before relief?
“Crawl back into the ocean
The deepest part’s
Not deep enough for me
To hide it all beneath
White-eyed in my reflection
His blackened face
Won’t turn away from me
My rejoicing enemy”
Palomica
Two bleeding wings
Mother dove
Found you in the weeds
Scalded by fire
She took you to the wire
In the distance two birds sing

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. This is a beautiful tribute

Me and Alan only spoke briefly on twitter on occasion, but he seemed like a wonderful person, and his presence will be greatly missed in the world. This is a beautiful tribute to him.
