Jay, the original characters from initial d look so drastically different because they never come out and officially say it but the community’s best guess is that they’re about 45-50 years old by this point

This is the big mistake made by the people who watched this. they expected it to be initial D anime when it isn't and is not even trying to be one.

Jay, the overtake at the 13 minute mark was the same technique - i.e., the "disappearing line" that the pro in the Civic did to Takumi during 4th stage - you feint like you're going to make your move to the outside before diving to the inside.

Maaan they make it so had to think it's realistic with the effect they use. But I guess it adds to the anime dramatic feel when passing him, would've probably been less exciting without it

The Overtake around the 13 minute mark was real, it was just dramatized to make it look like he teleported. Similar to how they did the Fujiwara zone, It was Dramatized. It actually can happen and is possible, It just wont be that quick.
