Dang, if it's the B48 then yea, it's a turbo 4, same engine as my wife's JCW. To be fair, it's a solid engine, and can be tuned really high without touching the internals, so it'll be interesting to see where it'll be at. I'm gonna guess around 300-350hp based on what you can get with bolt ons on the B48.

Yea, i think either way he wouldn't have been able to defend with the power he's got. If it was downhill towards the finish I think he might've eeked it out, but with the finish being uphill, that killed his chances.

nope they have four versions the 2.0L 2dr 4 cylinder turbo the 3.0L 2DR 6 cylinder turbo the 3.0L premium 2DR 6 cylinder turbo and the A91-CF edition with the 2DR 6 cylinder turbo

I think if Kanata had a tighter exit and didn’t go wide he would’ve had a good chance. Or maybe he would’ve been screwed anyways because he would kill his own exit speed.

yea mazda has been quiet with making new cars so it is interesting they gave his student a supra to race with and from what i heard unfortunately he will be using the B48 engine in his supra instead of the B58 which i think is the 4 cylinder engine

Yea, Akaba and the Ferrari are #2 for a reason, he's definitely no slouch. I'm ok with the result as it made sense realistically lol.

Hopefully the next episode gives us some backstory on him! Interesting choice going with the Supra, I wouldve thought theyd use a Mazda if hes Keisukes protege, but i guess Mazda hasnt really done anything sporty except for the Miata lol. I wonder if they're gonna use the 4 Cylinder or 6 Cylinder version of the Supra 🤔...

Dang, Kanata put up a good fight, so I can't be too upset. As someone who drives on track with an underpowered car, I know how it is to go up against a car that has way more horsepower, and a much of a heroic effort as it was for Kanata, it wouldn't have made sense if he held on to third, especially as that last section was uphill and Akaba had 3 times the horsepower. Let's get that power now and level the playing field! ogata is a mechanic yes but tuning is very very different than maintenance and repairs, you need a whole different skillset and years of experience for proper tuning, it makes sense for them to go to a specialist tuner shop as your average joe who ogata represents wouldnt be able to get the same level of performance that theyre after

its not that kanata was nerfed for plot reasons and finished in fourth, its just that akaba is a genuinely good driver, in the 1st race where he qualified lower than he shouldve because of a turbo malfunction and he still climbed all the way up to 3rd when he started in 9th place i think, akaba has been shown to be an incredible racer throughout the last 2 seasons, it makes sense for him to have the skill to pull past kanata when he has tripple the horsepower

We got four episodes left! I think we'll need at least two episodes for qualifying and post-qualifying story shenanigans. So we'll hopefully only have one "dry" episode left (i.e., next week) - but I think next episode should be marginally interesting...

For the most part when it comes to the cringy fanservice part of the show, I think the blame is on Shuichi Shigeno, the creator and writer of both Initial D and MF Ghost. That part of the writing is almost the same in the manga as it is in the show.
