Your mental health is way more precious than this game. It was a great idea and the setting was awesome aswell. I had a lot of fun with this game! I always wanted it to become bigger, but I had my doubts, following your patreon. Know that your work was no waste at all! You grew with it and you gave us some very special fun!

Ah, dang, is it because of me? I *just* joined this month, I hope I wasn't the 5 dollars that broke the Qwaxi's back. :( I do understand how money can make something you did for fun now feel like an obligation, and completely change how you interact with it. I definitely think it's a huge shame, as CC had a lot of potential and every update brought fantastic new content to the table, but if it makes you feel trapped because you feel you're not "worth your salary", and if you felt trapped by the messy engine making it hard to add content, it's all very relatable. I'll say, though, making your own text adventure engine keeps all the ugly text rendering and positionning logic right in your face, and that's all the more opportunities for mistakes to pile up. In retrospect, maybe something like building on top of Twine (I think Night in the Woods did that?) or a preexisting toolset would have made it easier to keep the art/story part and the gamedev parts separate? At any rate, good luck figuring out how to get that creative bug of yours going again.

Hey dude, do what makes you happy. I’m quite happy with what I got out of Chitinous Carnival. Should any other game of yours be released as a full or partial game, I’ll be happy to pay for it. But I think most of us just want you to feel well first. I hope that you reach out either to your own support network or us if there’s any big problems.

an artist making the tough decision to choose their own well-being over their work is never a letdown. this has happened with plenty of creators i've supported on patreon, and i'm always happy that they're doing what's best for them, even when it's hard. i'm sorry things have been so rough for you. i hope you feel better having made this choice, and i wish you the best with whatever you choose to do.
