After a long beat of silence, in which Harry’s mind goes through all of his options a wee bit faster than most would be capable of, the young man turns his smile towards Hermione and gives her a nod.
“I accept your apology, Hermione. It takes a lot to admit when you’re wrong, I know that.”
Hermione flushes a bit at that, and ducks her head. But the smile that spreads across her own face is unmistakable. Harry isn’t surprised, he tends to have that effect on girls, and he’s well used to it by now. Hermione Granger is no different, though… she is certainly an interesting conundrum.
“That said, I do think we should talk about your future in this world, Hermione. I wonder, what are you hoping to get out of all of this? Out of coming here, so late in your life?”
That causes the young witch to freeze up. Looking at him with big doe eyes, the muggleborn opens her mouth for a moment… and then closes it, clearly speechless. Harry just lets his smile transition into a lopsided grin, and shrugs.
“Sorry. I got a little heavy there, didn’t I? Still, I do think it’s something we should talk about. Mostly because… I might be one of a few people who are able to help you without abusing you.”
That gets a concerned look on Hermione’s face.
“Abusing me?”
Nodding, Harry gestures to the bed.
“Shall we sit and talk for a moment?”
He moves without waiting for a response from her. There’s always the small chance that Hermione will reject him and decide to leave, but Harry has deemed that miniscule enough to risk it. He’s proven right, when the brunette girl sits down beside him a moment after her does, seeming slightly anxious, but also undeniably curious. He likes that, about her. That burning curiosity he sees in her eyes.
“Hermione… the Wizarding World is not always a nice place, full of sunshine and rainbows. Despite having actual, honest magic at our fingertips, ours is not a utopian society. I don’t know if you perhaps thought it would be, when you accepted the offer to attend Hogwarts… but I imagine by this point, you’ve figured out that it’s not.”
“… Yes. I’ve met my fair share of bigots by this point. But even if there’s nothing utopian about this place, I still… I still want to learn.”
Harry nods, even smiles encouragingly.
“And that’s good, Hermione. Magic… magic is an amazing thing. I can only imagine what it’s like from your point of view, how wonderful it is to experience it all for the first time. But that’s just the thing. You’re going to have so many firsts, here at Hogwarts. Firsts that the rest of us had years ago, when we were much younger, when we were actually children, taught by our parents, or our guardians.”
It takes a moment for Hermione’s face to twist into something ugly as she comprehends what he’s saying. She’s a smart girl, and this is proof of that. Not everyone would be able to so quickly understand exactly what is WRONG with what Harry has just confessed. But Hermione? Hermione is an intelligent young woman, with a quick mind from the looks of things.
“That’s not fair… but then, I suppose what you’re trying to tell me is that it’s not designed to be, is that it?”
Harry chuckles, though there’s no real humor in the sound. He nods, even as he watches her.
“Yes, Hermione. That’s exactly right. The Wizarding World’s prejudices towards muggleborns runs deep, very deep. The system is made to work against you. That’s why most muggleborns who even try to make a go at joining our world, joining the world of magic… either drop out, or end up in a mentorship.”
That last bit catches Hermione’s attention, as he knew it would. Her eyes practically light up as she grabs hold of his words like a lifeline.
“Mentorship? What’s that?”
Giving her a wide smile, Harry gestures at himself.
“Mentorship is what I want to offer you, Hermione. I am the heir of two Ancient Noble Houses in the Wizarding World. When I’ve finished at least one year at Hogwarts, I will become Lord of House Potter, my birth house. My godfather, Sirius Black, has named me his heir as well, but so long as he still lives, I won’t have to take up the mantle of Lord Black as well, thankfully. Regardless, as an Heir and soon-to-be Lord, I have clout within the Wizarding World. Connections, wealth, power, influence. As irritating as the politics of it all are, I stand at the top of the mountain that you’ve only just discovered exists in the first place.”
Hermione’s face is expressionless by the time he’s done, and Harry is quick to spread his hands apart, to show he means nothing by his words.
“I don’t tell you these things to upset you, Hermione, or to seem like a braggart. I tell you them because it is through them that I can help you. Muggleborns can’t climb the mountain on their own. The slope is too damn sleep. They either give up… or someone throws a rope down.”
“Someone like you.”
Harry grimaces.
“Or someone worse.”
Brow furrowed, Hermione looks somewhat confused.
“Worse?”
Looking at the young woman as earnestly as he possibly can, Harry tries to make it clear he’s being honest.
“There are people in this castle that would rope you into a mentorship and drain you of all you are, Hermione Granger. There are those who would recognize your intellect, but hate you for the so-called purity of your blood. They would bind you to them, if possible, and if not, they would seek to ruin you all the same. I would… I’d rather not see that happen to you.”
Eyes wide, Hermione lets her tongue slip out to wet her lips before she replies. Even then, there’s a slight stammer to her voice.
“H-Have… have you seen it happen before, then?”
Harry shakes his head.
“Not with my own eyes. But I’ve certainly heard the tales. My own mother was a muggleborn, Hermione. A brilliant young woman, one Lily Evans. She came to Hogwarts, and she thought she’d made a friend. A friend who, while perhaps not as connected as I am today, had a wizard’s name, and wizard blood running through his veins. She thought of him as her best friend, perhaps she even loved him. So when he offered her mentorship, she very nearly took it. But luckily, before it was too late, the truth was uncovered. Her… friend had fallen in with the wrong sort. The vile sort, who had pushed him to offer her mentorship so that THEY could get their hands on her. For what purposes, I know not. They failed, HE failed, and my mother and my father ended up together instead. But… they’re gone now, unfortunately.”
Hermione’s hand is suddenly on his, and Harry blinks when he looks down to see the brunette clasping his fingers in her own. And then, she’s kissing him. Harry’s emerald eyes have only a moment to widen, before he’s kissing her back of course, entirely by instinct. It’s funny, really. He’d been thinking about how to best get into Hermione’s pants only a few minutes ago, hadn’t he?
And yet, he’d let himself get immensely side tracked. All of that shit he’d just said, all of that stuff he’d just unloaded on the witch… it wasn’t part of the plan. It’d just spilled out. Maybe it was the memory of his mom, prompting him to give a young woman just like she’d been a warning about what she was in for in this damnable world.
Of course, Harry wasn’t thinking about his mother now. No, now he was thinking about how soft Hermione’s lips were, and how inexperienced she was at kissing when compared to Nym. Not that that was stopping him from enjoying this impromptu makeout session. And when he finally got over his shock that it was suddenly happening, his surprise that somehow, Hermione had been the one to make the first move that he’d been intending to make… well, Harry was more than happy to take control and escalate things as far as the young witch would let him take them.
First of course, he let Hermione pull back after a moment, taking in the sheepish expression on her face.
“U-Um, sorry about your pare-mmph!”
While he appreciated the sentiment, Harry was all too happy to be the one to initiate the kiss this time, silencing her with his lips, and slowly moving her onto her back on his bed. Hermione offers up no resistance as he moves into position over her. She doesn’t try to stop him from kissing her, or touching her above her clothes, or even from sliding his hands up under her clothes.
In fact, the young witch arches her back as he slides his palms and digits across her smooth flesh, up to her breasts. She moans as he gropes and squeezes her soft titflesh through her bra, his fingers slipping under the undergarment in order to touch her chest directly. At the same time, Harry is making sure to introduce tongue to Hermione’s mouth, slipping his past her lips, and intertwining it with her own tongue as soon as he finds it.
She’s incredibly responsive, interestingly enough. Over eager, even. It makes him wonder if perhaps he’s taking advantage of her. To be fair, he wanted this, and if she wanted it as well, then it was only right that they both get what they wanted. But… in a way, if he fucked her now, on their very first true interaction, discounting the one they’d had before, wasn’t he abusing her trust in the same way he’d postulated other wizards and witches might?
He was serious about wanting to be her mentor, serious about sponsoring her forays into the Wizarding World, and her future in Magical Britain. And that meant he had to act like it. It meant he had to commit to actually giving her what she needed, not just what she wanted. It meant, Harry shuddered with the thought, that he had to be the responsible one in this relationship, because it was obvious, as one of his hands sinks beneath the hem of Hermione’s skirt and past the waistband of her panties without any resistance or tension on her part, that the young witch was following his lead.
Pulling back slightly, Harry watches Hermione, as he lets his middle finger delve into her folds. He watches her chocolate eyes widen slightly, he watches her cute lips part in a gasp, followed by a moan. His other hand is still on her chest, still squeezing and kneading her breast, still playing with her nipple. Her clothes are distinctly disheveled now, and she looks absolutely delicious. He could eat her right up. But Hermione is not Nym. He sees that now.
His ring finger joins his middle finger, and Harry changes the position his hand is in, in order to properly thrust both of his fingers into her, again and again. At the same time, this puts his thumb in position to rub at her clit roughly, something that Hermione enjoys VERY much, her mouth opening wider still and her entire face contorting in pleasure.
She cums, a moment later. She cums, and Harry can only hope that this room is in fact a pocket dimension, and thus soundproof, because Hermione is a bit of a squealer, her shriek echoing through the small chamber as her eyes very nearly roll up in her head, her back arching off the bed for a moment before finally, she collapses backwards.
Harry withdraws his fingers from the panting, breathless witch and brings them up to her lips, forgetting himself for a moment as he watches her, fascinated to see how far she’ll go. However, watching Hermione barely hesitate before opening her lips and sucking his fingers clean serves as a reminder of what he’s already decided. He’s going to be the mature, responsible adult here, for all that he’s only ALMOST an adult, and not quite there yet.
“Then I suppose we have an accord, Ms. Granger.”
He grins at her, even as he sits back, leaving her to stare at him with wide eyes for a moment, before she scrambles up from where she was laid out on his bed like she’d just been fucked, rather than fingered.
“W-Wait… that’s it? I haven’t… you didn’t even… um, a-aren’t you going to fuck me?”
She sounds unsure, and Harry knows in that moment that he made the right choice. Giving her a grin, the young wizard reaches out and squeezes Hermione’s leg affectionately.
“If I did, would I be any better than those that I tried to warn you about? You don’t owe me anything, Hermione. I want to help you, not own you, alright? If our relationship evolves in that direction, then we’ll cross that road when we get to it. Until then… let’s leave it at this.”
Biting her lower lip, Hermione looks almost sheepish, perhaps realizing just how… desperate she’s revealed herself to be. Harry watches in silence as she stands up and tries to fix her rumpled clothes and altogether disheveled appearance. But there’s no fixing her flustered face or her frizzy hair. At least, not until Harry casts a quick spell to put her to rights. Hermione’s gorgeous chocolate eyes immediately widen at that, and she looks to his wand with far more hunger than she’d had in her gaze when he was fingering her.
“You’ll teach me that then, right? Because… because your my mentor now?”
Harry just smiles and nods.
“That’s exactly right. We won’t be spending ALL of our time together, of course… we both are students at this college after all, and we will likely have quite a lot of work. But… I’m taking responsibility for you now. Tomorrow, everyone will know that.”
The air between them almost seems to vibrate in that moment, as Harry makes it official. He knows Hermione feels it, because her eyes widen again, and she lets out a soft gasp as the bond forms between them. They’ve each acknowledged it, in so many words. Their desire to enter into this bond, into this relationship. It’s one of many magical bonds that magical people can form with one another, and while it’s not the strongest out there, it’s also not the weakest. That’s what makes it so dangerous, in truth. Harry can break it from his end at a moment’s notice. Hermione, on the other hand, would have to work a lot harder to do so.
Regardless, everyone who sees the muggleborn tomorrow will see his mark on her. They will know she’s been… claimed, for lack of a better word. It should keep away the vultures, thankfully. Hermione herself seems speechless though, so Harry gives her a nod, and sees her out the door. Given how she looks, no one would guess that anything untoward happened between them… unless of course, they were smart enough to imagine that he and Hermione would clean up after themselves, regardless of what DID happen between them.
Considering they’d been sorted into House Ravenclaw… Harry figured it was a fifty-fifty chance anyone who saw Hermione entering and then leaving his room within half an hour would think anything had happened. In the end, it didn’t matter. Harry could care less what anyone thought of him… scratch that, he was deeply invested in what gorgeous, eligible witches thought of him. And if they thought he was a player and made a go at him because of it… well, they’d be right, and Harry would be happy to have some no-strings attached sex.
That might have seemed a little hypocritical, given he’d just denied Hermione… but that was the thing. Hermione WASN’T no strings attached any longer. There were a lot of strings attached now, in fact. It’s only as Harry sits down on his bed again, this time alone, that he realizes some of the ramifications of what he’s done… and how Sirius and Aunt Andromeda are likely to react to this.
He imagines he’ll get disappointment from both of them, but for different reasons. He’s not looking forward to that. But hey, that’s probably a little ways off, at least. For now, he has Hogwarts to look forward to. His ‘education’ at the premier College of Witchcraft and Wizardry starts tomorrow, after all.

The next morning, after a restful first night’s sleep at Hogwarts, College of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry knows he needs to make a decision, even as he eats breakfast at the Ravenclaw Table with Hermione by his side, the eyes of almost everyone in the Great Hall making their way towards them at one point or another.
Does he want to focus all of his efforts on Hermione, going forward? Or should he let her get her feet under her for now, and only assist her in a purely platonic sense? There were OTHER girls he could try his luck with, within Ravenclaw…
For instance, there was the exotic foreign beauties, such as Cho Chang and Padma Patil. They were both Pureblood Witches, of course, but not British Purebloods. They weren't quite as lost as Hermione, so Harry didn't feel his heart going out to them really... but they were still looking for friends, and Harry could definitely be their 'friend'.
Padma had a twin in Gryffindor, from what Harry remembered, and she could open a path towards having some fun with Parvati as well. Meanwhile Cho... well, Cho was just beautiful, wasn't she? Decisions, decisions...

I hope the Hermione fans enjoy the umpteenth story featuring her and Harry, instead of letting this story actually move in a less predictable direction

If it makes you feel better, consider it as a kind of "investment" that Harry can use for future escapades, ones involving other girls

Nuts... Should’ve guessed the canon main character would cream the competition, even if I am just not interested in exploring that relationship. Oh well.

I'm not sure if there's anything wrong on my end, but I can't find chapter 2 of this. Was it just not written, or is something wrong?
