Someone might have overheard if he’d been forced to ask that their conversation be private, and then all sorts of rumors would have spread. As it is, Jaune follows Glynda into her office, a little nervous but also determined to do this as she closes the door behind him.
“Right then. What did you need to talk about, Jaune?”
She actually sounds a little warmer right now, and Jaune blinks at that, surprised at her use of his first name, and the slight bit of interest she’s suddenly showing towards him as she leans forward. Is she… but no, that’s not possible. He might have come to her because she was a woman, but she was a teacher first, not some schoolgirl or something…
He was distracting himself. Realizing this, Jaune lets out a low sigh and shakes his head.
“Yes, sorry. I… I guess I’ll just come out and say it. I forged my transcripts, to get into Beacon. I… I’m a fraud. I’ve never attended any Hunter’s Academy before this one. I only got into Beacon because I lied… a lot.”

“Uh… Professor?”
That seems to snap her out of it, her eyes suddenly narrowing and her nostrils flaring as she starts, seeming to remember his presence. Looking at him, Glynda does something that Jaune doesn’t expect… she smiles ruefully.
“Well, that certainly explains your presence here, doesn’t it? I had wondered what had transpired to see Nicholas sending his only son to Beacon, but now I understand. He doesn’t know, does he?”
If there was one thing Jaune didn’t expect to hear pass from Glynda Goodwitch’s lips, it was his father’s name. Tensing up, not sure for what but doing it all the same, Jaune swallows thickly.
“You… uh, you know my dad?”
That rueful smile on the Professor’s face turns slightly sad and a little bit longing as she shakes her head.
“I knew him, once upon a time. But I suspect he’s grown since we last saw each other, just like I did. You could say that we were… peers, at one point.”

Glynda nods her head, her smile nostalgic now.
“Indeed. But in the end, Nicholas made his decision. And I suppose you’ve made yours, haven’t you Jaune? Tell me, do you want to be a Hunter?”
Thrown by the sudden swerve in the direction of the conversation, Jaune answers without thinking.
“More than anything, Professor.”

Still smiling, an odd expression for Jaune to see on the normally stern teacher’s face, Glynda gestures to the door.
“Then let’s end our meeting here for now, and I’ll see you just after dinner for our first session. Unfortunately, we probably will have to call it detention for appearance’s sake, but if you believe you can trust your team, feel free to tell them the truth.”
Nodding, Jaune starts making his way towards the door, throwing back one last reply over his shoulder as he goes.
“I d-do… trust them, I mean. Thank you for this chance, Professor! I won’t let you down!”
As he heads out the door, he turns away from Glynda completely. As a result, he misses the expression that crosses her face, an expression that Jaune is actually VERY familiar with. He also misses her final words, spoken only after the door to her office closes behind him.
