Summary: John takes Liara to medbay and gets her checked out by Doctors Chakwas and Michel. They confirm what was already expected, as well as deliver another bombshell that rocks Liara more than any of them. Still, when all is said and done, she'll always have Shepard at her side. John Shepard, anyways. Not like there's another running around and getting into trouble... right?
-x-X-x-
“You really should have come to me immediately as soon as you noticed a change. Still, all signs point to you being correct… you are indeed pregnant.”
It’s a little surprising, just how much comfort and familiarity Liara finds in the ship doctor’s presence. But maybe it really shouldn’t be. Doctor Chakwas, the Normandy’s Head Doctor, was actually old enough to be considered a Matron herself by Asari standards, all thanks to human technologies allowing for an ever increasing lifespan.
And the human woman had used those hundreds of extra years of life in pursuit of helping others, ever-expanding her knowledge in the medical field and working to try and keep people safe and healthy in whichever way she could. To say she was a lot like some of the nicer Professors Liara had had back in her University days would not be incorrect.
Which is why it was hard not to feel rather sheepish before the human woman’s stern but concerned gaze. Even as her assistant, a much younger human woman named Doctor Michel, runs the medbay scanner over Liara’s rapidly developing body, Liara blushes a bit and averts her gaze as Doctor Chakwas sighs.
“It’s alright. While we may not know everything there is to know about Asari physiology quite yet, neither I nor Dr. Michel have been idle since you came aboard Dr. T’Soni. Indeed, I considered it our duty to make sure we were up to speed on the biological differences of you, our newest crew member. I’ve been flying with the Commander here for quite some time… I knew it was a matter of when, not if, he would manage to have you made an official part of our ever-expanding family.
Glancing at John Shepard as she says that prompts a sheepish laugh from the man as he just shrugs, rubbing a hand through the back of his head. Liara, meanwhile, couldn’t help but be a little relieved and also more than a little amazed. It was yet another example of humanity’s drive to accomplish things in such a short time, given they’d only had access to her memories on Asari biology for a couple months now. Their own medical technology was certainly very advanced and on par with what Liara remembered from her time, but she was still the only example of her species they’d ever encountered.
“Doctor, here are the results.”
“Thank you Doctor.”
Taking the scanner from Dr. Michel, Chakwas looks over what’s in front of her for a long moment before humming and nodding as she sets the device aside. Sitting down across from Liara in a move that the Asari knows is meant to comfort her, but nevertheless does work at least somewhat, Dr. Chakwas adopts a soft smile.
“The good news is, it’s my professional opinion that your recent… growth isn’t at all surprising, given the change in your situation. While you are indeed pregnant, there’s also what you’ve told us about your previous work experiences. For you, just a few months ago you were used to working lone workdays in remote and altogether hostile and treacherous locations. You likely forgot to eat regularly, and even when you did eat, you were depending on less than palatable rations to get you through your dig. Would you say this is accurate?”
Blinking, Liara just nods slowly, making Chakwas’ smile grow a little.
“Then there you have it. While the pregnancy might be playing a part in hastening your transition into the Matron stage of the Asari life cycle, which is the part of all of this I have the least experience with, the rest only makes sense from a pure generalized biological standpoint. Your body has gone from a daily struggle for the sustenance and rest it needs, to suddenly having altogether short and far less intense workdays. You regularly eat much more filling meals, and you’re getting a lot more rest.”
Leaning back and clasping her hands together in front of her, Chakwas shrugs her shoulders.
“It makes sense that you would fill out a fair bit in light of all that. You’re putting a bit more meat on those bones of yours, while at the same time your new pregnancy is accentuating and amplifying the situation. But it’s all completely fine from a medical standpoint. In fact, I would go so far as to say it might be more than fine, all things considered.”
Bringing up a chart on her nearby terminal, Chakwas swings the monitor around to show Liara a report that makes the Asari blush.
“As it turns out, your current calorie consumption needs regularly exceed that of one of our own Biotic Super Soldiers. Indeed, I’m told that you’ve been greatly enjoying exploring our different foods in the mess hall.”
Liara can’t help but squirm at that, momentarily brought back in memory to Mess Sergeant Gardner steadily working to expose her to all of humanities’ diverse cuisines over the last couple of months. Indeed, human food was positively delicious. Maybe in some ways she would always miss her own people’s dishes, and she’d even managed to recreate a couple… but humans had taken cooking to an art form, and according to Sergeant Gardner, he’d actually only ever exposed her to old Earth cultures so far.
They hadn’t even gotten out of the twenty first century yet according to him! No, apparently there were even more diverse and tasty dishes after humans finally made it off their planet and began to spread out through the big wide universe.
“Still! It’s to be expected, isn’t it? After all, you’re not just expecting… you’re having twins! Congratulations Dr. T’Soni, Commander.”
John, off to Liara’s side, straightens up at that and smiles a bright smile as his eyes twinkle happily.
“Oh? Twins? Heh, not surprising considering it runs in the family…”
Doctors Chakwas and Michel are all smiles too… until they all notice that alien in the room is NOT smiling. Liara has a gobsmacked expression on her face as she blinks owlishly.
“Um… what?”
Furrowing her brow in concern, Chakwas leans forward and places a hand on Liara’s leg.
“Twins, my dear. The scanner could be malfunctioning, but more than likely it’s not…”
“N-No! It, uh… i-it must be! Go ahead and redo the scan, please.”
Even as Chakwas nods to Michel and the younger Doctor does as she bids, Liara’s head is whirling. Because… Asari don’t have twins. No, it’s more than that. Twins in Asari culture, the culture that lives on only through Liara now, are a sacred thing. They’re downright mythical in status. Twins are… they simply don’t happen, but also even if they did happen, they wouldn’t happen to Liara! That would be… that would be ridiculous!
“Hey, Liara… sweetheart, everything okay?”
John, bless his heart, easily picks up on her growing distress. Forcing herself to calm down, Liara gives him a faltering smile and a nod.
“Y-Yeah. It’s just the scanner giving back a false positive. S-Sorry if you got your hopes up, John…”
“I’m afraid not, Dr. T’Soni…”
Liara’s head whips around and Dr. Chakwas looks somewhat grave now as she shows the latest scans. Indeed, as much as Liara doesn’t want to admit it, her own breadth of knowledge allows her to see it even before the human Doctor points it out… she is indeed carrying twins right now, according to the human technology.
“Dr. T’Soni… Liara. Is there a reason that twins would be a bad thing? Is there an issue that might cause complications with your pregnancy? If there is, we need to know now so we can begin to prepare…”
Dr. Chakwas’ voice is grave, even as John’s arm settles around Liara’s shoulders, the human super soldier pulling his alien lover into a comforting hug as she just sits there, completely blank for a moment. It would make sense that Chakwas would assume the worst, she supposes. Given Liara’s reaction, what else could the good doctor assume? But no… no.
“N-No… it’s just not possible. Um, Asari don’t have twins. Or at least, it’s supposed to be a biological scarcity to such an extent that our only records of twins throughout our history were effectively… mythological in origins. Twins were the product of truly legendary figures, even after we spread throughout the galaxy and… and embraced eternity with numerous other races. An Asari having twins… it’s not just one in a million, it’s one in a BILLION.”
Feeling decidedly overwhelmed at this point, Liara offers a watery smile to Chakwas and John both.
“Y-You see, it has to be some sort of mistake. Something like this… something so legendary w-wouldn’t happen to someone ordinary like me! I’m just Liara! I’m nobody!”
Chakwas glances over at John and John sighs as he holds Liara a bit closer.
“You’re not nobody, Liara.”
Letting out a slightly hysterical little laugh, Liara shakes her head.
“I-I know that, okay?! I’m not trying to diminish myself… I just… y-you know what I mean! I can’t be pregnant with TWINS! That’s ridiculous!”
“It actually isn’t sweetie. I’m a twin, after all. And so was my mother, and so was her grandfather. The Shepard Family are predisposed to twins… always have been.”
“O-Oh…”
For a moment, Liara thinks she might be able to accept it of it’s a quirk of John’s biology. Her mind begins to reorder itself and reorganize as she starts to come to terms with the fact that… well, even if twins had been incredibly rare among the Asari even after they began interacting with dozens of other sentient races, they’d never mated with humans before, right?
If it was all on John, then maybe that was fine. She could accept that. But of course, her human lover doesn’t leave well enough alone.
“But also… do you really not see, Liara? Do you truly not understand how special you are? You claim that twins are the providence of mythological and legendary figures within Asari history, right? The sort of thing that happens not even once in an Asari lifetime, rarer even then that.”
Swallowing thickly, Liara nods. Intelligent as she is, she already knows what he’s leading up to, and she pleads at him with her eyes not to say it. But if there’s one thing John has proven so far in their time together, it’s that he’s not afraid of uncomfortable truths. Giving her a soft, sympathetic smile, John shrugs helplessly and says it anyways.
“Legendary Asari… such as the being who will in fact resurrect the entire Asari race?”
A breathless shudder rushes through Liara at that. Because yes, that was indeed to be her role. And she would accept it gladly, because to do otherwise would be tantamount to re-committing genocide against her species. She would be the Mother of the Asari, and for a moment Liara can see it, can see her children spreading out amongst the stars and in a thousand years being a full-fledged civilization once more, all while venerating her as the First, as the Progenitor.
She can see them treating her as just a mythological and legendary and great figure in their history as those in her own. And the fact that the very first New Asari that she would give birth to would be a pair of twins? That would only solidify her position in their mythology.
She’d known all of that already, but needless to say, Liara had been doing her best to ignore the full implications and throw herself into her work until now. But alas, no more. No more could she ignore what her body was going through. No more could she ignore the truth… she was the last Asari, tasked with restoring her entire race… and she was going to be having twins.
Eyes rolling back in her head, Liara faints from the news right then and there. Luckily, John is already holding her in place as she passes out in his arms, completely overwhelmed by just… everything.
-x-X-x-
Sitting at his computer terminal in his quarters, John could only let out a low sigh at how long the day had turned out to be. A glance over his shoulder reassures him that Liara is still fast asleep in his bed where he’d laid her out after caring her here all the way from medbay. Luckily, the pregnant Asari had been in medbay in the first place when she’d had her fainting spell.
After the initial worry and John calling out to her in concern, Doctors Chakwas and Michel had checked over Liara’s vitals. Chakwas’ diagnosis had ultimately been that the Asari was almost certainly fine but had been mentally and emotionally overwhelmed by the numerous bombshells dropped on her. While they didn’t know nearly as much about Asari as humans as of yet, it was an educated guess that they could be shocked to the point of needing a rest just as much as humans.
Indeed, ultimately Chakwas’ professional opinion had been that Liara just needed some rest… and more than that, that she would best have that rest back in John’s quarters, where she could wake up in a familiar setting with a familiar, comforting presence at her side. John was all for that to say the least, and with the Doctor’s permission, had made his way back with Liara in her arms.
Kelly, meanwhile, had split off to put in some much needed purchases for Liara… and of course, to gossip to the rest of the crew John was sure. While he could have told the Yeoman to keep everything she’d heard while she was playing the uncharacteristically silent wallflower in medbay under wraps, John had known there really wasn’t any point.
Oh sure, Kelly would have obeyed his orders, like she always did… but Liara was a part of the Normandy now, and like Chakwas had said, the Normandy was one big family. Commander John Shepard’s storied history and his status as a War Hero had effectively allowed him to write one big blank check when it came to his service to humanity.
As such, he’d not only gotten to pick his ship, but also the people who crewed it, something he’d taken a long time with, making sure to pick the best of the best, but also those he thought would fit together well. The crew of the Normandy were like the pieces of one big jigsaw puzzle, and while they didn’t always fit perfectly together, he wouldn’t trade any of them for anything in the world.
So yeah, John hadn’t tried to stop Kelly from gossiping, he hadn’t even mentioned her keeping things under wraps. Which, given what he knew of her, meant that the entire crew would know about Liara’s pregnancy and the fact that she was carrying twins very soon indeed. In fact, as John sits there shooting off a perfunctory report to his superiors about the developments of the very long, very arduous day, the messages from Normandy Crew Members begin to pop up in his inbox.
He can’t help but grin good naturedly at some of them, rolling his eyes as he reads through the first few. Each and every one of them is congratulatory of course, with a few of them being a little teasing and a couple feigning jealousy over John not only hogging the sexy hot blue chick, but also getting her in the family way so damn fast.
Of course, the more the news spreads, the more messages he gets, until the Commander is almost happy to hear a slight moan from over on his bed. With an excuse to abandon his work for the moment, John steps away from the terminal to check on Liara, gathering her up in his arms as the beautiful blue buxom space babe groans and rubs her forehead for a second.
“Liara, how are you feeling? You gave me quite the scare you know…”
“Mm, I… I’m alright now. S-Sorry about that, I think I just… got a little overwhelmed.”
“You have nothing to apologize for, Liara. After everything you’ve been through, today would be overwhelming for anyone.”
Sighing, she nods as she cuddles closer into his arms, letting him hold and comfort her. For a moment, silence reigns, but not long before Liara speaks up again.
“I guess more than anything, it was the realization of what I personally would have meant to my species… if they were still around. You don’t exactly grow up thinking you’re going to be the next big thing, not without a particularly massive ego likely built off of some sort of mental disorder.”
Humming, John nods in understanding. It’s all too easy for him to emphasize with his Asari lover. Thanks to their melding, he can easily imagine what it must feel like to lose your entire species. In fact, part of the echo of their meld leaves him feeling a strange sort of melancholy as well, as if he were an honorary member of the Asari race thanks to the depth of his and Liara’s embrace, and their loss was his loss as well.
Still… reaching down, John takes one of Liara’s hands in his own and places it over her abdomen, right over the maturing, developing Asari’s womb.
“The Asari will rise again, Liara. Through you… through me… we’ll do our part to make sure your people aren’t lost. Alright?”
Quiet but also humming with contentment and warmth, Liara nods as she smiles down at their joined hands atop her not yet bulging abdomen. She might not be showing yet, but with twins she would be soon enough…
At the thought, John can’t help but tease his alien lover just a little bit, a cheesy smile crossing his face as he leans forward and whispers in her ear.
“I can’t believe how lucky I am. Not only am I the first human to discover intelligent alien life, but you turn out to be a sexy, compatible blue space babe who will now go on to be the progenitor of your entire species. I wonder what they’ll call you, Liara. Something like the All-Mother, perhaps? Or maybe the Matriarch of Fertility?”
As he expects, the ideas leave Liara sputtering in embarrassment and flustered indignation. No doubt, they deliver quite the inappropriate mental image of her as a heavily pregnant Asari Matriarch. The scent of her arousal fills Shepard’s enhanced nostrils, and he can tell her cunt is leaking at the thought of him continuing to give her daughters for hundreds and hundreds of years. What would have been an impossibility of humanity had discovered her in the past, was now very much a potential reality.
Of course, the melding influence went both ways and Liara T’Soni had definitely picked up some sass from him on the back end of their embrace, because she scowls after a moment, pouting mightily as she fires back at him with a challenging tone.
“Hmph, well even if they do, I doubt I’ll keep YOU around for that long. I’m not sure if you’ve impressed me enough for such a… long term relationship.”
Grinning, rather than taking it in a bad way, John takes it as the playful jab it’s supposed to be… and of course, escalates the situation another degree as he slides out from under Liara and moves down her body.
“But of course, Matriarch. A beautiful woman like you, so full of life, has her pick of so many men. To think that I might get even a fraction of your attention… I’ll do my best to earn it, I promise.”
And then he’s diving down between her thighs and beginning to eat her out, roleplaying worshipping her as some sort of Vessel of Fertility or something like that. While Liara might have been somewhat corrupted by his human sass as a result of their meld together, at the end of the day John Shepard was the actual human… with all of the teasing and sass that came with that.
Needless to say, Liara had nowhere near the resistance training yet to let it last for long. While she does her best at first, only blushing and holding in her moans as John grabs her by her inner thighs and slides his tongue up into her azure pussy, it’s not long before she can’t hold back her reactions whatsoever.
Indeed, it’s not long before the beautiful young Asari, who is rapidly entering the Matron stage of her lifestyle as she prepares for a long pregnancy with twin daughters at the end of it, is moaning up a storm, her hands clutching at the bedding beneath her as she involuntarily bucks her hips upwards into John’s mouth.
Eyes twinkling merrily, the human super soldier, who knows EXACTLY how good his tongue is, pulls back after a moment, cocking a brow questioningly.
“Matriarch? Am I pleasing you?”
“Y-Yes! D-Don’t stop d-damn it!”
Liara’s gasping, panting demands are John’s joy to follow and he chuckles as he leans in again. One of her hands comes down atop his head at that, holding him in place as he licks her lovingly and slowly at first, but eventually lashes at her azure clit and her puffy pussy lips with his tongue, digging in deep until she’s crying out and squealing as she creams herself all over his face.
But if she thought John was going to stop then, Liara has another thing coming as he just dives right back in, continuing to eat out her pussy like there’s no tomorrow, until finally the Asari breaks.
“P-Please! I need it inside of me! Please John, please fuck me!”
Pulling back, freeing himself from her grasp and moving up her body between her splayed legs, John hums as he slides his cock along her pussy lips and across her mound, rubbing it on her abdomen rather than penetrating her right off the bat.
“Are you sure, Matriarch? A lowly human peasant like me, getting an opportunity to be inside of a Goddess of Fertility such as yourself? It seems almost wrong, in a way. Surely there must be someone better, someone more worthy…”
It’s a testament to how out of it Liara is already that she’s not even really capable of keeping up the roleplay anymore. Eyes half-rolled back in her head and heavily lidded, the Asari slurs her words as she scrambles against him, her hands clutching at his chest needily.
“N-No… no one’sh more worthy, John. Pleaaaase… please f-fuck me. I need it… I need you inside of me!”
For a moment John considers taking things further… but he just doesn’t have it in him. Or rather, he doesn’t have it in him to prolong the wait for being IN Liara any longer. Sliding back, he lines up and then thrusts forward, impaling Liara with a grunt as she lets out a wanton moan and trembles beneath him, shuddering in orgasmic ecstasy. John isn’t remotely surprised that she cums the moment he put it in… her body is clearly on a hair trigger with all of the changes it’s undergoing.
Grinning wickedly, he leans in close and begins to lick and slurp at her breasts, before ultimately latching onto one of her lactating teats and beginning to drink from her delicious milk as he fucks her slowly at first, but with more speed as time goes on.
Liara lets him drink for a bit, but eventually she lets out a needy moan that has nothing to do with physical sex and altogether another sort of desire. Reaching down, she grabs him by the sides of his head and all but tears him away from her nipple, yanking him upwards so they can make eye contact as she slurs out a hasty ‘Embrace Eternity’ and the two of them lose awareness of everything except for one another.
Just in time too, because right at that same moment, there’s a chime from John’s computer, a particular ping that he would have immediately recognized as being different from any of the other messaging alerts he had his terminal set for. Indeed, this chime would have probably gotten his reluctant full attention… if he weren’t in the middle of an incredibly intense, erotic mind meld with his alien lover.
After all, there weren’t many people in the galaxy who knew how much trouble John’s twin sister, Jane Shepard could get into. In fact, the only time she got into MORE trouble was when they were in the same area together. Which was why they both had standing orders, officially signed off on by their superiors, to avoid being within one Transfer Knife of each other unless otherwise ordered to do so by one of their higher-ups.
Still, that didn’t mean they couldn’t send messages to one another… or that they hadn’t disobeyed those direct orders once or twice upon a time in order to pull each other’s bacon out of any particularly hot fires when needed. Which was why John was usually so good about being on top of any messages from his sister, because while some might be exchanges of niceties and keeping in touch, more often than not they only really contacted each other when shit hit the fan, either in a good way or in a bad way.
Luckily for John, who wouldn’t be checking his messages for several hours, shit had hit the fan for Jane Shepard in a good way this time around. As evidenced by the tagline of the priority email now sitting at the top of the queue on John’s terminal, just waiting to be read.
Hey bro, you know that sexy blue space chick you found? Well, I found something even BETTER!
Better, was of course, entirely subjective in this case… but there would be no denying that Jane’s discovery would turn out to be just as monumental and impactful when all was said and done as John’s, much to his amazement and consternation.

Did Jane find a Drell hunk in stasis? Or more than one Asari in stasis?
